Position Overview:
READY, has an exciting opportunity for a Prevention Specialist to coordinate and manage prevention services designed to reduce substance abuse in a community college environment. This position will work with college personnel to develop mutually beneficial programs for students, complete tasks designated by the Alabama Department of Mental Health, use methods and instruments for collecting valid and reliable data, deliver an effective substance abuse prevention education curriculum to students, plan and implement a media campaign, report on program performance, and apply strategies to improve outcomes.
Prevention Specialist
We are looking for an enthusiastic, creative, confident, and positive individual who wants to make a difference in the lives of our community. Applicants must have a passion for the substance abuse field and basic knowledge of drugs and drug culture. Must be comfortable working with college-age students.
Required skills:
- A minimum of a bachelor’s degree in public health, marketing, education, social work, psychology or related field is required.
- Proven leadership and project management experience a must.
- Ability to communicate effectively with diverse populations of colleagues and establish and maintain cooperative working relationships with those contacted through the course of work
- Implementation of effective prevention strategies
- Ability to speak publicly when conducting presentations and/or facilitating meetings,
- Work independently under limited supervision and organize multiple work assignments
- Collect and report on work as required by the Department.
- Candidate must have a valid driver’s license, access to a car, the ability to lift and transport program materials required, and available to work evenings and weekends as needed.
- Creativity, design and marketing skills are a plus. Must be proficient in Microsoft Office programs (Word, PowerPoint, Publisher) and use of social media platforms (Facebook, Twitter, and Instagram).
- Must receive Associate Prevention Specialist (APS) certification within one year of employment.
- Travel Requirements:
Must have your own transportation and be willing to use your own personal transportation to travel to various locations throughout the community and throughout the state as required.
Hours:
Must have flexibility with schedule. Some weekends and weeknights will be required.

- 8 hour shift
- Evenings as needed
