Direct Support Professional/ Instructor - Vocational Training Program

Vocational instructors involved in Carousel Ranch’s “Ready to Work!” program will help to prepare participants (adults with special needs) for a wide variety of jobs and/or volunteer work within the community with the goal of making each “Readier to Work.”

We are looking for a high energy, highly motivated and capable applicant who will work four to five days/approximately 32-40 hours per week (with room to increase) as Direct Support Professional /Instructor in our Ready to Work! vocational training program. Must be eager to learn, work well under pressure and deal with a fast paced and changing environment. We are looking for someone who is looking to grow in the position and take on more responsibility as time goes on.

Located in Agua Dulce, Carousel Ranch’s Ready to Work! program is dedicated to providing vocational training for young adults with special needs. You should be prepared to assist RTW instructors in effectively teaching students with well-planned curriculum, lesson plans and teaching materials. Vocational training is a real-world solution that prepares students for skilled positions and better prepares them for the workforce. This position require applicant to utilize own transportation to drive around the Santa Clarita Valley and surrounding areas.

Job duties will include, assisting other instructors with both in-class and outside activities; this includes helping students put together resumes, practicing for interviews, outside activities ranging from ranch work, vehicle washing, construction projects, and other job experiences. There are offsite workdays incorporating work based learning in the community for our students. Support staff/Instructor works with students individually and in a group setting. Administrative tasks to be done on a weekly basis to provide support for instructors, including reporting.

Hours during the week may vary depending on the classes you are scheduled to work in. Typically starting out, Tuesday - Friday 10am to 5:30pm and Saturday hours from 8:30am to 2:00pm and occasional hours based on events, etc. Hours will increase after training period.

Salary: $18.50/hour to start with room for growth

Knowledge, Skills, and Requirements

· Experience in working with adults with special needs.

· Knowledge of Microsoft Office programs and ability to work within website platforms.

· Strong interpersonal and communication skills and the ability to work effectively with a wide range of constituencies in a diverse community.

· Must have ability to work in an outdoor environment, in all types of weather.

· Willing to learn and follow Carousel Ranch’s procedures.

· Willing to complete background check and DOJ fingerprinting/Live Scan and CPR certification and Health Check (including TB test).
