POSITION SUMMARY:
Develop and implement optimal, cost-effective manufacturing processes and methods in accordance with product specifications and quality standards. Recommend and implement improvements to production processes, methods and controls. Plan, design, implement and manage integrated production systems that assure performance, reliability, maintainability, schedule adherence and cost control. These systems will integrate people, information, equipment, processes and energy throughout the life cycle of the product.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Establish methods, equipment, and layout of all direct and indirect jobs utilizing time-study and/or MTM or GSD systems.
- Plan and implement of new products utilizing the optimal systems and controls to achieve the production, quality and use of disabled workers objectives.
- Assignment of special projects in ergonomics, cost reduction, statistical process control, automation, facility layout among others.
- Participate in production meetings.
- Evaluate the task being performed and establish the method and equipment needed to achieve the quality and production requirements necessary for the job.
- Utilize time-study and predetermined time systems such as MTM or GSD to set production standards.
- Analyze the production system being used and recommend alternatives in methods, line balancing, wage administration and cost reduction.
- Evaluate the best ergonomic machine setup in order to utilize disabled workers.
- Prepare and maintain detailed layouts of processes and related equipment.
- Coordinate the manufacturing launch of new/revised products including establishing goals, training team members and evaluating results.
- Confer with management, engineering and other staff regarding manufacturing capabilities, production schedules, and other considerations to facilitate production processes.
- Confer with sales, planning and design staff concerning product design and tooling to ensure efficient production methods and quality results.
- Design, develop and test and/or source and cost-justify various tools, machinery and equipment for recommended manufacturing methods.
- Confer with vendors to determine product specifications and arrange for purchase of machinery and equipment according to specifications and quality standards.
- Apply statistical methods and perform product/process analysis for cost reduction, quality improvement, and improved efficiency.
- Prepare quotations for labor, tooling and equipment to support the business unit requirements.
- Participate in concurrent engineering design reviews.
- Evaluate and approve drawings, routings / MI’s, specs and other documents.
- Evaluate and solve production problems.
- Train assemblers or conduct training to introduce new processes.
- Communicate with vendors to deal with technical issues related to materials or tools used for the process.
- Communicate information or changes within the organization to employees.
- Issue written and oral instructions.
- Study and standardize procedures to improve efficiency of workers.
- This position has no supervisory responsibilities.
- Perform other duties and responsibilities as required or requested.
Qualifications
MINIMUM JOB REQUIREMENTS:
To perform this job successfully, and individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily. The requirements listed on the job analysis are representative of the skill, and/or ability required.
Education: Bachelor of Science in Engineering, Mathematics, Science or Business Administration.
Experience: Five years working in manufacturing or related industry or related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience.
Specific Skills: Industrial Engineering skills and knowledge related to apparel or sewn products manufacturing.
Specialized Knowledge, Licenses, etc.: Must be able to utilize time-study and predetermined time systems such as MTM or GSD to set production standards
Other Skills and Abilities: Effective oral and written communication skills required. Ability to use general office equipment (i.e. facsimile, photocopy, and/or related office peripherals). English/Spanish proficiency helpful. Proficient with Microsoft Excel and Word.
Physical Demands: Occasionally required to stand and walk. Regularly required to talk and hear. Frequently sits, bends, kneels, and reaches out with hands/arms. Must be able to lift/move up to 10 pounds and occasionally lift/move up to 25 pounds. Reasonable accommodations may be made to enable individual with disabilities to perform the essential functions.
Work Environment: Primarily work in manufactory environment and some office environment.
