Archaeologist


 General Overview


The Archaeologist - Principal Investigator with Reagan Smith will be responsible for:


  • Researching cultural resources and cultural histories
  • Scheduling surveys and field crews
  • Conducting archaeological field evaluations in accordance with Bureau of Land Management standards
  • Report writing
  • Completing site forms
  • Coordinating with Tribal representative, state and federal agencies, landowners and other stakeholders
  • Coordinating arch surveys with other departments within Reagan Smith
  • Assist permitting department with permitting tasks
  • General administrative and office duties 


Must be able to work in physically demanding field conditions. Must be organized with excellent time management skills to manage projects and teams. Excellent communication and research skills are necessary. Overnight travel will be required.


 Qualifications


  • Minimum of a master’s degree in Archaeology, Anthropology, or closely related field
  • Emphasis/experience in Plains Archaeology is required
  • Ability to dig test holes (including screening and completion of hand written forms) and traverse sites with uneven terrain and potentially brushy/woody vegetation while carrying a shovel, screen, notebook, water, and other personal protective equipment, as required by the job and task
  • Valid driver’s license


Job duties and responsibilities


  • Point person for project timelines and staffing
  • Schedules and performs site visits, field observations and field data collection and/or field assignments.
  • Perform desktop surveys and pre-survey research including landowner, leases, records search, historic aerials.
  • Plan shovel testing and survey protocol for a variety of projects with Cultural Resources Manager.
  • Conduct site testing to determine site boundaries and make National Register recommendations.
  • Work with Mapping Department and Permitting Department to meet timelines and project goals.
  • Evaluate field data and create written reports
  • In accordance with company procedures, approves or prepares reports for relatively complex projects, making appropriate recommendations as necessary on projects.
  • Assist more senior level Project Managers on larger, more complex projects.
  • Represent Reagan Smith at Section 106 Consultations and other agency meetings.
  • Maintain good working relationships with state and federal agency contacts and clients.
  • Assist in the preparation of bids for project proposals.
  • Remain current with agency protocol for conducting cultural resources work, particularly in the states of Oklahoma, Arkansas, Texas and New Mexico.
  • Collaborates with management to develop client development plans.
  • Develop professional relationships with existing and prospective clients.
  • Contribute to business development through active engagement in professional networking activities outside of the office and presenting to existing and prospective clients.
  • Follow all company policies and safety procedures.
