SUMMARY:
This full time, at-will position will report to the Director of Fields and Grounds – Real Salt Lake. Under his supervision, the Head Groundskeeper participates in the maintenance of the five natural grass fields, Zions Bank Stadium (artificial field), 2 full size indoor artificial fields, common grounds maintenance, and related work as required. The Head Groundskeeper will be responsible for the day-to-day maintenance and daily task assignments and will help supervise 3 other full-time workers and 4 part-time workers. He/she typically conducts maintenance and repair of motorized and other mechanical equipment used in the field of Turfgrass Management. They will monitor moisture levels, hand water, mow, aerate, fertilizer, budget, etc.
RESPONSIBILITIES INCLUDE:
- Implement and build upon the turf plan for the athletic playing fields at the training facility, under the guidance and direction of the Director of Fields and Grounds.
- Work with the Director of Events to ensure all field conditions are met for third party events and venue rentals
- Manage fertilizer application, calculations, and record keeping
- Keep track of daily/weekly/monthly planning
- Support the crew with maintaining the field maintenance, Kentucky Bluegrass, sod cutting and installation
- Manage irrigation, mowing trimming and use of blowers
- Maintain of artificial turf surfaces
- Operate and maintain power equipment such as reel and rotary mowers
- Operate tractors, top dressers, aerators, utility vehicles, backpack blowers, and trimmers
- Overseeing performance and productivity of full-time and part-time employees
- Assist with other duties as assigned
MINIMUM REQUIEMENTS:
- Working knowledge of the maintenance of sports fields; the seeding, sodding and maintenance practices for sports field turfgrass; the planting, cultivating, pruning, and caring for plants, shrubs and trees; the characteristics and proper use of various fertilizers and soil conditioners, herbicides and pest control methods and materials; drainage control methods; and irrigation system, including wells, pumps and automatic controls.
- 5 years of maintaining high level professional fields
- Must have strong leadership. interpersonal and supervisory skills
- Possess excellent written/verbal communication skills, detail-oriented and highly organized with the ability to simultaneously handle multiple tasks and adapt to change.
- High level of understanding of the sport’s governing bodies’ requirements for field layouts and markings
- Possession of a valid driver's license and excellent driving record
- Able to work irregular hours, nights, weekends, and holidays
- Must pass SafeSport training and background check
PREFERRED REQUIREMENTS
- Toro Sentinel preferred
- 2 years of leadership experience preferred
- Two- or four-year degree in turfgrass highly preferred
