Chief EstimatorAbout the Company
Our client, a well-established general contractor in the commercial construction space in Indianapolis, is seeking an experienced Chief Estimator to lead their estimating and pre-construction efforts. This role is crucial in developing competitive bids, multi-level budgets, and ensuring a comprehensive understanding of project documents and construction processes. As a key member of the leadership team, the Chief Estimator will oversee the estimating department and play a vital role in securing and successfully executing projects.
Key Responsibilities
- Oversee the estimating department, ensuring all bids and awarded projects follow standardized procedures and best practices.
- Develop accurate and competitive bids, perform takeoffs, prepare bid-day spreadsheets, obtain bid bonds, and coordinate with industry partners as needed.
- Ensure a smooth transition from bid to project execution by collaborating with project management and operations teams throughout the project lifecycle.
- Assist project management teams with change orders, additional pricing, and scope clarification during all project phases.
- Lead preconstruction efforts, developing multi-level budgets for various project delivery methods, including Construction Manager as Constructor, design-build, and Build-Operate-Transfer projects.
- Identify and evaluate potential project opportunities, maintain a bid registry, and lead weekly acquisition meetings to discuss upcoming bids and track ongoing projects.
- Build and maintain strong relationships with internal teams, subcontractors, vendors, clients, and design partners, while actively engaging in industry and community initiatives.
- Participate as a key member of the executive team, supervising and mentoring estimators within the company.
- Maintain and update the historical cost database, bid management system, and estimating software to enhance accuracy and efficiency.
- Oversee all aspects of bid reviews, ensuring accuracy and completeness, and coordinate project insurance requirements and performance / payment bonds before handing off successful projects to the management team.
- Identify potential risks and collaborate with the executive team to develop mitigation strategies.
- Review project plans and specifications, attend pre-bid meetings, and assess contract requirements to ensure full bid compliance.
- Prepare project budgets, job costs, and detailed turnover documents for successful bids, maintaining involvement throughout project progress as needed.
