Job Overview
We are seeking a detail-oriented and experienced Accountant with a strong background in Charter School Accounting to join our finance team. This role will focus on financial reporting, compliance, budgeting, and grant accounting to ensure our charter school operates within financial best practices and regulatory requirements.
Key Responsibilities:
Financial Management & Compliance
- Prepare and maintain financial statements in compliance with state and federal charter school regulations.
- Ensure compliance with Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP), Governmental Accounting Standards (GASB), and charter-specific financial reporting requirements.
- Monitor and reconcile restricted and unrestricted funds, ensuring proper allocation of grants and categorical funding.
Budgeting & Financial Planning
- Assist in the development, monitoring, and analysis of the school’s annual budget.
- Provide financial projections and recommendations to school leadership.
- Track revenue sources, including state funding, federal grants, and local contributions.
Accounting & Grant Management
- Maintain general ledger accounts, ensuring proper journal entries and reconciliations.
- Track and report on grant expenditures, ensuring alignment with grant guidelines.
- Manage accounts payable (AP) and accounts receivable (AR) functions, including vendor payments and student billing.
- Prepare and submit financial reports for state and federal funding compliance.
Payroll & Benefits Accounting
- Work with payroll processing teams to ensure accuracy in salary payments and benefit deductions.
- Allocate payroll costs properly across funding sources and cost centers.Audit & Financial Reporting
- Support annual audits and charter school financial reviews.
- Prepare documentation for auditors, board meetings, and state regulatory agencies.
- Maintain records for 990 tax filings (if applicable) and compliance reporting.
Qualifications & Skills
- Education: Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field (CPA or experience in nonprofit/governmental accounting preferred).
- Experience: 3 years of accounting experience, preferably in a charter school, nonprofit, or government setting.
- Software Skills: Experience with QuickBooks, Sage Intacct, SmartFusion, or other charter school accounting software.
- Knowledge of: GASB, GAAP, Uniform Guidance (2 CFR Part 200), and charter school funding regulations.
- Soft Skills: Strong analytical, problem-solving, and communication skills.

Pay: $60,000.00 - $75,000.00 per year
