What are the responsibilities and job description for the Summer Internship - CNC Machining position at Reata Engineering & Machine Works?
Summary
Reata Engineering & Machine Works, Inc. (“Reata”), a state-of-the-art contract manufacturer specializing in comprehensive machining and assembly services, is seeking Summer Interns in our Production department. This position is ideal for individuals who love to learn and are passionate about a career in CNC machining. With a culture that values endless improvement and cutting-edge technology, Reata offers a unique opportunity for students to get a foot in the door towards growing and excelling in a manufacturing environment.
Overview
We are offering a dynamic summer internship opportunity in CNC (Computer Numerical Control) machining for motivated and skilled students. As an intern, you will gain hands-on experience in operating state-of-the-art CNC machines, learning from experienced professionals, and contributing to real-world projects.
Qualifications
- Currently enrolled in a relevant program (e.g., Advanced Manufacturing, CNC Machining, Mechanical or Manufacturing Engineering) or a recent graduate.
- Basic understanding of CNC machining processes and CAD/CAM software.
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
- Eagerness to learn and ability to work well in a team environment.
- Excellent communication and organizational skills.
- Authorization to work in the United States of America without sponsorship.
Responsibilities
- Operate CNC machinery and equipment under the guidance of senior technicians.
- Assist in the programming, setup, and maintenance of CNC machines.
- Participate in quality control processes, ensuring products meet the required specifications.
- Learn and apply knowledge of various materials and machining processes.

- Collaborate with the engineering and production teams on project-based work.
- Attend workshops and training sessions as part of professional development.
- Follow strict safety protocols and contribute to maintaining a safe work environment, in compliance with ITAR registrations and aerospace and medical industry standards.
Characteristics
Our interns love working with computers. They enjoy the challenge of troubleshooting when things go wrong and are detail-oriented since they will be producing parts with tight tolerances where even fractions of a millimeter count. They have a passion for creating things and are effective at time management.
Our interns also possess good problem-solving skills and the ability to adapt quickly to changing conditions. CNC machining is, by far, an automated process, but automation is not a guarantee of problem-free production. There will always be things that need to be adjusted or unforeseen issues that will arise. Our interns are also team players since they work closely with engineers, production supervisors and quality control inspectors.
Physical Requirements
- Capable of standing for extended periods and managing tasks that require precision.
- Ability to lift materials up to 50 pounds and adapt to a dynamic manufacturing floor.
Work Environment
Reata's facility is equipped with the latest in CNC technology and automation, offering a clean, highly organized, and safety-focused environment. Team members are expected to adhere to strict safety and quality standards while embracing the challenges of manufacturing complex products.
Conclusion
Joining Reata as a Summer Intern in our CNC Machining program means becoming part of a team that is at the forefront of manufacturing innovation. If you are driven by the desire to solve complex problems and work with cutting-edge technology, Reata is your ideal place to learn. Here, your commitment to excellence and continuous improvement will be valued and nurtured, paving the way for a rewarding career in advanced manufacturing.
