Your Role as an Occupational Therapist:
- Provide Occupational Therapy Support – Conduct assessments to determine students’ functional abilities based on age and educational placement, tailoring interventions to their needs.
- Deliver Individual & Group Therapy – Provide occupational therapy services that target fine and gross motor skill development, sensory integration, self-care, and activities of daily living to enhance student learning.
- Develop & Implement Treatment Plans – Create individualized therapy plans and sensory diets to improve student functional abilities and support academic success.
- Educate & Train Team Members – Provide staff with training and strategies for implementing therapeutic techniques such as deep pressure, oral motor exercises, sensory modulation programs, and handwriting interventions.
- Collaborate with Interdisciplinary Teams – Work closely with teachers, therapists, and support staff to ensure integrated and effective student support.
- Communicate with Parents & Caregivers – Maintain ongoing communication with families to provide updates on student progress and offer guidance for continued support at home.
- Monitor & Document Student Progress – Maintain accurate records, including daily session notes, biannual progress reports, initial evaluations, and treatment plans to track student development and therapy effectiveness.
Qualifications:
- Master’s or Doctoral degree in Occupational Therapy
- Licensed to practice Occupational Therapy in NYS
Preferred/Nice to have:
- Knowledge of DIRFloortime® is preferred, but not required
