Your Role as a School Nurse
- Administer Health Services & Medication – Provide health services, including medication administration and management, ensuring students' medical needs are met throughout the school day. Advocate for the health rights of all students.
- Track & Maintain Student Health Records – Collect, organize, and maintain annual medical forms for students and staff while ensuring confidentiality. Complete required reports for city and state agencies and document medical incidents.
- Support Student Well-Being & Hygiene – Assist students in developing self-care skills related to personal hygiene, illness prevention, and managing medical conditions to promote independence and confidence in daily activities.
- Respond to Medical Emergencies & Ensure Safety – Be available for medical emergencies, administer first aid, and provide care for staff and student incidents. Maintain necessary medical equipment and supplies while following Department of Health guidelines.
- Collaborate with Staff & Educate the Community – Work closely with teachers, families, and staff to provide consistent medical support. Conduct in-services on relevant health topics and maintain professional competence through staff development and continuing education programs.
Required Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s degree in Nursing (BSN) required.
- Must hold a valid New York State (NYS) nursing license and state certification.
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills to effectively collaborate with students, staff, and parents.
- Proven ability to establish and maintain positive, professional relationships with students, staff, and parents, fostering a supportive learning environment.
