Job Description - Part Time Retail Associate
Evanston’s Rebuilding Exchange store is hiring!
If you have a passion for home diy projects, exceptional customer service, and reusing and recycling materials, we would love to have you join our team. We sell donated home materials like lumber, doors, and kitchen cabinets, plus unique and hard to find items like vintage home decor and furniture. People shop with us to feel inspired for their next home project while helping to divert materials from landfills.
We’re seeking a part time sales associate with weekend availability who is excited to help our customers learn more about deconstruction and creative reuse of home materials.
The nonprofit Rebuilding Exchange has stores in Evanston and Chicago, and invests in our communities by reusing building materials, reducing construction waste, and supporting workforce development.
You are part of a team at Rebuilding Exchange, and your role is important. As a retail associate, your responsibilities include supporting your fellow staff, assisting customers, and cleaning, organizing, and merchandising products. We’re seeking a retail associate who wants to learn more about home renovation and deconstruction, and who will provide a welcoming and helpful experience for people to buy and donate home materials. The retail, logistics, and workforce training teams collaborate on projects and work together to move and organize donated materials and appliances throughout the store.
This is a part time hourly position, and you must have Saturday and Sunday availability from 10am-6pm. The Sales Associate reports to the Retail Store Manager.
Primary Responsibilities:
- Assists customers while shopping and provides helpful customer service
- Moves, organizes and displays donated home materials and appliances within the store, and moves items in/out of the parking lot for customers.
- Receives material donations and maintains inventory
- Helps to maintain a clean and organized store
- Contributes ideas for improving the store experience for fellow staff and customers
- Attends monthly staff meetings and participates in ongoing safety updates, training, and employee reviews
- Additional duties as assigned
Job Skills and Qualifications
Applicants must:
- Have 2 years Retail and/or Sales Experience
- Be passionate about our nonprofit environmental mission of reuse and diverting materials from landfills
- Have interest and knowledge of building materials, home repair, renovation, and diy home projects
- Offer friendly, upbeat, and approachable customer service for guests
- Be excited to be part of a diverse and collaborative team
- Have the ability to lift at least 50 pounds regularly and safely. Safety toe shoes are required.
- Bi-lingual English/Spanish a plus
