Position Summary:
We are seeking a dedicated Emergency Coordinator to develop and implement emergency response plans and ensure that our staff is fully trained to manage potential emergencies. The Emergency Coordinator will be responsible for planning, preparing, and training staff for emergency situations, ensuring that all response procedures are in place to manage risks, including hazardous chemical events. This individual will manage the maintenance of emergency response equipment, assist in plant emergencies, and collaborate with local municipalities and emergency response teams to ensure comprehensive emergency preparedness.
Key Responsibilities:
- Identify and assess potential hazards and risks in the plant and develop emergency response plans.
- Manage inspection programs for emergency systems, including deluge systems, fire extinguishers, hydrants, firewater basins, fire pumps, SCBAs, communication systems, and spill response equipment.
- Manage confined space entry and rescue equipment and ensure compliance with safety regulations.
- Train staff on emergency procedures including fall protection, Hazcom, CPR/First Aid/AED, hazardous materials handling, industrial firefighting, HAZWOPER, and incident command.
- Provide support during plant emergencies to both field and command staff.
- Regularly update emergency response procedures in line with regulatory and operational changes.
- Collaborate with Training & Development (T&D) to schedule and maintain emergency response training and certifications for staff.
- Maintain documentation and resources for emergency preparedness, including pre-plans, traffic control, community alert information, and communication systems.
- Foster relationships with local municipalities, fire departments, and emergency response agencies for coordinated emergency efforts.
- Ensure compliance with federal, state, and local regulations governing emergency preparedness.
- Prepare reports and critiques following emergency events to assess response effectiveness and recovery needs.
- Design and administer emergency drills to practice response to major emergencies and disasters.
Qualifications:
- Associate degree or equivalent experience, with a minimum of 5 years of related experience or training in emergency response.
- Knowledge of maintenance and certification requirements for emergency response equipment.
- Familiarity with incident command protocols and local emergency response capabilities.
- Detailed understanding of hazards and emergency response needs associated with chemical manufacturing.
Certifications (must have or be able to obtain):
- HAZWOPER (Hazardous Waste Operations and Emergency Response)
- Certified First Responder (CFR)
- Haz-Mat Instructor
- Confined Space Rescue Instructor
- Industrial Fire Instructor
- SCBA Tech
Physical Demands:
- Ability to lift and move up to 100 pounds (with assistance when needed).
- Ability to climb stairs, ladders, and pass respirator fit testing requirements.
- Ability to work outdoors in all weather conditions.
- Must be available for 24/7 on-call duties.
Work Environment:
- Work in a chemical manufacturing environment with moderate noise levels.
- Exposure to various environmental conditions, including extreme temperatures.
- The role involves frequent outdoor work and requires full PPE, including respirators.
