Silane Operator
Responsible for the safe and efficient operation and monitoring of processing equipment and support systems within assigned Silane Unit
Silane Operator Essential Duties
The following examples of duties and responsibilities illustrate the general range of tasks assigned to the position but are not intended to define the limits of required duties.
- Monitor and operate process equipment by following written procedures to ensure personal safety and product quality
- Monitor chemical inventories and maintain them at acceptable levels
- Troubleshoot and prepare equipment for maintenance
- Record production data in logbook and processing documents
- Compute and record production statistics
- Provide operator perspective and input for management of change (MOC), unit initiatives and improvement task force activities
- Perform Emergency Squad responsibilities as needed
- If assigned, operate a DCS control system involving all aspects of plant
- Support shutdown and turnaround activities
Silane Operator Qualifications
Incumbents must have demonstrated knowledge and abilities in these areas.
- Requires a minimum of a High School Diploma or equivalent and one (1) to three (3) years related experience, preferably in an industrial or manufacturing environment, or equivalent combination of education and experience
- Basic computer skills including functionality in Microsoft Office Suite Other Skills and Abilities
- To perform the duties of this job, the incumbent must be able to successfully certify and maintain Operator certification and Emergency Squad Certification as required by policy
- Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions and procedure manuals
- Basic understanding of pressure, differential pressure, flow, temperature, as they pertain to chemical processes and trouble shooting
- Basic understanding of PH, caustic and acidic materials and liquids
- Ability to add, subtract, multiply, and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals
- Ability to execute lock out tag out (LOTO) of process equipment and systems to include initiating safety work permits.
- Ability to read power and instrument diagrams (P&ID)
- Frequently lift and/or move up to 50 pounds and occasionally push and/or move up to 100 pounds
- Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and ability to adjust focus
- Ladders and stairs are climbed frequently
- Personal protective safety equipment and Self-Contained Breathing Apparatus (SCBA) and bunker gear are required to be used during emergency procedures
- Three-inch high-pressure fire hose is used for firefighting. High grip force is necessary to lift and carry, as well as handle, the equipment
Silane Operator Work Environment
- The employee is frequently exposed to moving mechanical parts; high, precarious places; and outside weather conditions, temperatures range from below 0 to 100 degrees out of doors
- The employee is occasionally exposed to fumes or airborne particles, toxic or caustic chemicals, risk of electrical shock, and risk of radiation
- The noise level in the work environment is usually loud
- Hand trucks, dollies and forklifts are used to perform the job
- This position requires the employee to work a 12-hour rotating shift.
- The work rotation includes some weekends, holidays, and overtime as required and based on production needs, the company reserves the right to change or modify the schedule
