Summary:
Reclamation District 1601 is seeking a dedicated and hard-working Laborer to join our team. This role will involve maintenance of managed wetland projects. The ideal candidate should have some experience with heavy equipment, be physically capable of lifting up to 50lbs, and possess a strong commitment to ensuring the function of the managed wetland projects to reverse island subsidence, sequester carbon, and provide habitat.
Responsibilities:
- Perform routine inspections, maintenance, and repairs within the wetlands and to the external wetland infrastructure.
- Operate and maintain heavy equipment, such as mowing tractors and backhoes, to execute tasks related to managed wetland maintenance.
- Collaborate with the maintenance team to address any structural deficiencies, erosion, or other issues that may compromise the effectiveness of the managed wetland projects.
- Ensure proper functioning of siphons and recirculation pumps by performing regular checks, troubleshooting operational issues, and performing maintenance as needed.
- Participate in emergency response efforts during floods or adverse weather conditions, working closely with the team to reinforce levees and manage water levels.
- Safely lift and handle materials weighing up to 50lbs to support maintenance tasks.
- Keep accurate records of maintenance activities, inspections, and repairs performed, maintaining a well-organized documentation system.
- Comply with safety protocols, regulations, and guidelines to guarantee a secure working environment for oneself and fellow team members.
Qualifications:
- High school diploma or equivalent; technical training or certifications related to heavy equipment operation and maintenance is a plus.
- Experience working in maintenance and construction settings, with heavy equipment operation and large pipe repair as a plus.
- Physical ability to lift heavy loads up to 50lbs and perform tasks that require bending, lifting, and working in various weather conditions.
- Excellent problem-solving skills and the ability to troubleshoot siphon and pipe malfunctions effectively.
- Detail-oriented approach to maintenance tasks and record-keeping.
- Effective communication skills to work collaboratively with team members and respond to emergency situations.
- Willingness to work flexible hours and be part of an on-call rotation during flood events.
