Position: Peer Support Specialist II
Job Type: Full-Time / Non-Exempt
Shift Details: Sunday - Tuesday E/O Wednesday 7:00AM - 7:30PM
Work Location: Crisis - Peoria
Salary/Hourly Wage: $17.00 - $19.50/hour

Summary of Job: The Peer Support Specialist II provides support and recovery training to individuals receiving services. The Peer Support Specialist II also assists in implementing/creating a recovery environment and acts as an advocate for the needs and rights of every individual. The Peer Support Specialist II provides support to participants through assisting in resume building, job searching and recovery planning.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
- Guest Care & Advocacy:
- Provides coaching and mentoring to peer support staff through role modeling and guidance, modeling techniques and practices of peer support and self-help.
- Acts as a mentor for new team members, facilitating training opportunities for professional development.
- Provides support for participant wellness, groups, and other activities that strengthen recovery.
- Ensures all program elements and expectations are being met.
- Provides peer support to engage participants in a recovery partnership and assists in identifying participant’s hopes and dreams and the solutions they are seeking.
- Teaches recovery and life skills using recovery tools.
- Models hope, personal responsibility and self-advocacy to demonstrate how recovery goals can be respectfully met and how a belief in self is maintained.
- Cultivates connectedness in the person’s life (self, others, the environment, and to meaning and purpose).
- Compliance & Risk Management:
- Completes clinical notes as required.
- Responsible for facilitating, documentation, transfers and transition of guest care.
- Keeps abreast of all federal and state regulations and laws and all Recovery Innovations policies and procedures as they presently exist and as they change or are modified.
- Understands and adheres to Recovery Innovations compliance standards as they appear in the Code of Conduct and Conflict of Interest Policies.
- Cross Functional Collaboration:
- Assists with initial introductions to clinical team, serving as point of contact for participants.
- Coordinates with the individual’s clinical team and other supports to arrange services or resources to help the individual achieve their goals.
- Coordinate transportation to external resources and facilitate community integration.
- Develops and maintains positive and constructive working relationships with team members
- Additional Duties:
- Creating peer level curriculum and facilitate group activities.
- Performs other related duties as assigned.
- Outpatient Programs:
- Aids participants with resume building, job searching and recovery planning.
- Provides recovery support services in partnership with team members in the community.
- Assists individuals in maintaining healthy living within the community.
Job Requirements:

- Education/Licenses:
- Successful completion of Peer Employment Training thus obtaining Certification as a Peer Support Specialist required.
- High School Diploma or equivalent
- Experience:
- Lived experience requiring mental health and/or substance use services.
- Two (2) year of full-time behavioral health experience.
- Additional training in peer-related topics required.
- Experience in community navigation, resume writing, curriculum development, and family peer support.
- Skills:
- Basic computer skills.
- Ability to teach/train recovery information and recovery tools.
- Effective communication skills.
- Must be able to pass de-escalation training, as defined by state requirements.
- Driving Requirements:
- If driving is required for this position, must meet all requirements outlined in Recovery Innovations driving policy.
- If not qualified to drive per driving policy, a Non-Driver Attestation form must be signed.
- Outpatient Programs:
- Experience in community navigation, resume writing, and family peer support.
- Miscellaneous Requirement(s):
- Applicants must be at least 18 years old unless residing in a state where funder or government regulations set a different minimum age requirement.
- Travel required based on business need.
- Ability to maintain a high level of confidentiality (HIPAA guidelines and regulations) and professionalism.

- Must be able to pass substance abuse testing and/or tuberculous testing (if applicable).
- Must be able to pass education verification check.
- Must be able to obtain designated fingerprinting clearance in applicable states.
- Must be able to pass three-year motor vehicle report and meet minimum eligibility requirements criteria of insurance carrier (if driving is required for this position).
A Direct Service Competency Checklist must be completed as part of the new hire onboarding process.
Physical Demands:
May include work close to the eyes and substantial motions of the wrist, hands, and/or fingers. Frequent sitting, standing, walking, handling, finger dexterity; eye-hand-foot coordination, use of corrected vision; color vision; use of auditory senses. May be required to lift up to twenty (20) pounds.
Work Environment
May work in an office environment or behavioral health facility. May have contact with individuals who are agitated and/or confused.
