What are the responsibilities and job description for the Peer Support Specialist - Recovery Coach position at Recovery Institute of Southwest Michigan?
The Recovery Institute is a peer-driven non-profit organization that promotes individual recovery for mental health and addiction concerns. Founded in 2006, we serve Kalamazoo County by offering peer support to people who have mental health and/or substance use concerns. We are a community that embraces recovery, wellness, and mutual support, where everyone is afforded opportunities to contribute and thrive according to their own desires and wishes.
The Recovery Institute seeks applicants for one or more Part-time Peer Support Specialist/Recovery Coach positions. The work of a Peer Support Specialist/Recovery Coach includes:
- facilitating groups and classes,
- providing one-on-one peer support,
- helping people access community resources including health, housing and treatment options, and
- sharing your personal lived experience with mental health and/or addiction concerns.
These positions have a starting wage of $16.69/hour. Part-time positions also offer paid time off, contributions to an IRA and a great bunch of people to work with. Currently, RI staff work out of our office building, located at 123 South Westnedge, as well as in the community at various medical clinics, hospitals, libraries and Kalamazoo county courts. Many of our services are also delivered via the internet, so we require that our staff be comfortable using computer technology.

- possess a valid and current driver’s license as well as reliable transportation,

- have personal experience navigating mental health and/or addiction treatment services.
Preference will be given to applicants who are already certified as a Peer Support Specialist by the State of Michigan and especially candidates who speak both Spanish and English fluently.
