Summary/objective: Billing Specialist should be familiar with commercial insurance, Medicare, and Medicaid billing. Most of our patients are Medicaid, with a few either commercial-insurance or dual eligible for both Medicaid and Medicare. We file behavioral health insurance claims on behalf of our clients and work with patients and their families on payment plans and other arrangements to ease the financial burden of those who are uninsured or under-insured.

- Oversee the submission of insurance claims to Medicare and Medicaid.
- Assist with credentialing and processing of insurance claims for private and employer insurance reimbursement.
- Assist with Electronic Health Record setup and configuration.
- Work with patients to develop self-pay arrangements and payment plans as needed.
- Verify that charges have been accurately and expeditiously entered into the electronic health record to ensure proper records handling and fast payment responses.
- Process and follow up on payer denials, consulting with the patient and/or his or her family as needed.
- Make sure finance has everything needed to record claim payments in a timely manner.
- Initiate private pay collections after insurance cancellation, denial, or other issue.
- Research and resolve client billing problems or issues.
- Assist patients and their families with applying for Medicaid, Medicare, and other financial solutions.
- Document payment records and issues as they occur.
- Manage WV Medicaid Presumptive Eligibility
- Provide support to Utilization Manager and other behavioral health administrative staff.
Education/Qualifications: Minimum of a High school diploma/GED required. Previous experience in behavioral health and billing a plus. Individual with lived experience in recovery preferred. The ideal candidate will be compassionate and naturally helpful as well as resourceful in working a problem to its successful conclusion.
Knowledge, Skills, Abilities: Must have experience with medical billing and coding, preferably in a behavioral healthcare environment and strong knowledge of Medicare and Medicaid billing practices. Excellent customer service skills, excellent verbal and written communication, and good stress management skills are needed in this position.
Work Environment: Employee will work in an office setting. The noise level in the work environment is usually minimal.
Physical Demands: While performing the duties of this job, the employee routinely is required to sit; walk; talk and hear; use hands to keyboard, handle, and feel; stoop, kneel, crouch, twist, crawl, reach, and stretch. The employee is occasionally required to move around the office. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and ability to adjust focus. May occasionally be required to lift up to 20 lbs.
