The Substance Use Disorder (SUD) Counselor works in a clinical outpatient services facility that specializes in substance use disorders and co-occurring mental health conditions. This position is the lead clinician on the treatment team and works closely with all members of the treatment team.

Essential functions: Reasonable accommodations may be made to enable individuals with disabilities to perform these essential functions.

  • Deliver individual and group therapy with clients to address their substance use disorders and co-occurring mental health conditions (primarily major depressive disorder, anxiety disorders, PTSD, and bipolar disorder)
  • Guide clients in the acquisition of new skills and knowledge. Assist them in directly addressing their emotional, behavioral, and cognitive symptoms.
  • Serve as lead clinician on the treatment team which meets to evaluate clients’ treatment needs, generate detailed plan for delivery of clinical services, and evaluation clients’ clinical progress for purposes of plan review and discharge.
  • Provide guidance and assistance to supportive counselor as needed.
  • Services will be delivered to clients via telehealth when required.
  • Document therapeutic sessions and submit documentation to billing department as required for company reimbursement.
  • Other duties as assigned.

Must be knowledgeable of the principles of sound therapeutic practices with the target population. Must also understand victimization and demonstrate practices sensitive to sexual abuse/assault issues in therapy. Excellent written and verbal communication skills, good critical thinking skills and supervisory skills are required. The SUD Counselor will have the ability to provide group, individual, and family counseling.

Education/Qualifications: Master’s degree in counseling, Social Work, or related field is required. WV Licensed or Provisionally Licensed Professional Counselor or Social Worker. Independent/Non-provisional licensure a plus. Experience in mental health or SUD is a plus.

Work Environment: Work is performed primarily in an office setting. The noise level in the work environment is usually moderately quiet.

Physical Demands: While performing the duties of this job, the employee routinely is required to sit; walk; talk and hear; use hands to keyboard, handle, and feel; stoop, kneel, crouch, twist, crawl, reach, and stretch. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and ability to adjust focus. Position may require extended periods of standing, sitting, walking, and may occasionally be required to lift up to 20 lbs.

Job Type: Full-time

Pay: $22.00 - $25.00 per hour
