This position is located at Recovery Point's "The Point Cafe" in Huntington, WV. The Point Cafe is part of a national network of recovery cafes, offering many services to the community.

Summary/objective: The Peer Recovery Support Specialist position is designed for a person with lived experience who helps remove personal and environmental obstacles to recovery, links the newly recovering person to the recovering community, and serves as a navigator and mentor in the management of personal and family recovery.

- Help to initiate and sustain an individual/family in their recovery from SUD/COD
- Promote recovery by removing barriers and obstacles to recovery
- Serve as a personal guide and mentor for people seeking, or already in recovery.
- Help an individual find resources for harm reduction, detox, treatment, family support and education
- Help individuals find ways to stop using drugs or reduce the harm associated with addictive behaviors
- Identification and cultivation of community wide services and supports
- Maintain official records and documents, and ensure compliance with Federal, State, County and Recovery Point West Virginia guidelines
- Establish working relationships and cooperative arrangements with community groups and organizations
- Work with all local judicial officials to promote Peer Recovery Support Services
- Connect individuals to personal and community supports necessary to live independently
- Assist individuals with obtaining recovery related materials, attend recovery support meetings and provide referrals as necessary
- Serve as a role model in the general community and recovery community
- Provide referrals to high-risk consumers for HIV, TB, and Hepatitis
- Maintain an environment that is fully consistent with the Recovery Point West Virginia social recovery model
- Respond to a variety of situations and take appropriate action to resolve immediate safety or security concerns.
- Assist in daily operations at The Point Café.
- All other duties as assigned
Education/Qualifications: High school diploma or G.E.D. is required and have lived experience with substance use challenges. Must be actively working on obtaining PR credential. Valid Driver’s license with access to reliable transportation required.
