Chief Administrative Officer (CAO) – Driving Strategy, Compliance & Organizational Excellence

 

Are you a strategic leader with a passion for navigating complex legal, HR, and compliance landscapes? As the Chief Administrative Officer (CAO), you’ll play a pivotal executive role, overseeing the legal, human resources, and compliance functions to safeguard the organization’s integrity and drive operational success.

 

In this high-impact position, you'll manage legal risks, ensure regulatory compliance, and provide expert legal counsel on major contracts and transactions, including mergers and acquisitions, business and physician agreements, HR & employment matters, real estate, litigation, and more. Serving as the primary legal advisor to the CEO, senior leadership, and Board of Trustees, you’ll ensure that every decision aligns with both company goals and legal requirements.

Key Responsibilities

Success Metrics

  • Legal & Risk Management

    • Implement a proactive risk assessment framework to reduce legal exposure by 20% within the first year.
    • Ensure full compliance with all healthcare regulations and oversee legal strategy.
    • Strengthen relationships with external legal counsel to efficiently manage high-priority matters.
  • Human Resources Leadership

    • Drive a talent strategy to increase employee retention by 15% within 12 months.
    • Establish leadership development programs and an HR analytics system to enhance workforce performance.
    • Foster a culture of engagement and accountability to support organizational growth.
  • Regulatory & Compliance Oversight

    • Ensure 100% compliance with state and federal regulations, reducing audit findings by 25%.
    • Implement a comprehensive compliance training program for all staff within the first 6 months.
    • Develop data-driven compliance reporting for transparency and accountability.
  • Operational & Strategic Impact

    • Drive cross-functional collaboration between legal, HR, and compliance to improve service delivery.
    • Identify and implement cost-saving initiatives, achieving 10% operational efficiency gains.
    • Serve as a strategic advisor to the CEO and executive team on key initiatives.

What We’re Looking For

  • Proven track record of executive leadership in behavioral healthcare or a highly regulated industry.
  • Expertise in legal, HR, and compliance functions with a strong operational mindset.
  • Ability to drive measurable performance outcomes and lead teams effectively.
  • Strong strategic, analytical, and decision-making skills.

Qualifications & Requirements

Education:

  • Required: Juris Doctor of Law from an accredited law school

Experience:

  • Required: 15 years of experience in legal through a combination of major law firm, in-house general counsel or senior managing in-house counsel with five years in a senior leadership role.
  • Required: Solid healthcare experience, including in the areas of hospital/healthcare business operations and contracting; physician contracting; business transactions, including joint ventures, mergers/acquisitions/dispositions, and financings; and healthcare regulatory and legal compliance, as well as an excellent understanding of major federal laws, applicable state laws and related regulations that govern the provision of healthcare services.
