Position Overview:
We are seeking a compassionate and motivated Youth Peer Support Specialist to provide guidance and support to youth facing mental health challenges, substance use, and other life stressors. As someone with lived experience, you will play a vital role in helping youth navigate challenges, develop coping strategies, and connect with valuable community resources. This position is hourly, part-time-- with the option to move to full-time as a caseload is developed.
Key Responsibilities:
- Offer peer support and mentorship to youth based on shared lived experiences.
- Provide emotional encouragement and practical assistance in achieving personal goals.
- Facilitate peer support groups and one-on-one sessions to promote self-advocacy and resilience.
- Assist youth in accessing community resources, including education, employment, housing, and healthcare services.
- Collaborate with mental health professionals, case managers, and community organizations to create a supportive network for youth.
- Maintain accurate and confidential records of interactions and progress.
- Advocate for youth needs within the organization and broader community.
Qualifications:
- Over the age of 18, high school diploma or equivalent and able to connect on a peer-to-peer level.
- Hold a current Idaho Peer Support Specialist Certification
- Lived experience with mental health challenges, substance use recovery, foster care, juvenile justice, or other relevant life experiences.
- Ability to connect with and relate to youth in an empathetic and non-judgmental manner.
- Strong communication and active listening skills.
- Passion for youth advocacy and empowerment.
- Experience in peer support, mentoring, or youth services preferred.
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
- Familiarity with community resources and support systems.
