Position Summary Detox Alcohol and Drug Counselor
As a Certified Drug and Alcohol Counselor in our medically-managed withdrawal facility, you will be responsible for providing support and counseling to individuals undergoing detoxification from substance abuse. Your primary role will involve assessing clients' needs, developing treatment plans, case management, discharge planning, and delivering counseling sessions to promote their recovery and overall well-being. You will collaborate with a multidisciplinary team to ensure comprehensive care for clients during the detoxification process.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
The essential functions may include, but are not limited to the following:
- Conduct initial assessments to gather information about clients' substance abuse history, mental health, medical conditions, and social support systems.
- Develop individualized treatment plans based on clients' specific needs, strengths, and goals.
- Offer individual and/or group counseling sessions using evidence-based therapeutic techniques, such as motivational interviewing, cognitive-behavioral therapy (CBT), and solution-focused therapy.
- Monitor clients' progress during detoxification and provide emotional support and guidance throughout the process.
- Educate clients about the detoxification process, potential withdrawal symptoms, and coping strategies to manage cravings and triggers.
- Collaborate with the medical team to ensure clients' physical and mental well-being during detoxification.
- Conduct ongoing assessments to evaluate clients' treatment progress and make necessary adjustments to treatment plans.
- Provide crisis intervention as needed and refer clients to appropriate resources for specialized care, such as psychiatric evaluation or medical treatment.
- Maintain accurate and confidential client records, documenting all assessments, treatment plans, progress notes, and discharge summaries.
- Complete and document Care Coordination Plans with patients.
- Participate in team meetings, case conferences, and professional development activities to enhance counseling skills and stay updated on best practices in addiction treatment.
- Perform ASAM assessments when necessary for patient transfers
- Provide support to technician and team in low-staffing situations
- Help develop and run group support for patients during their stay.
Minimum Qualifications (Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities)
- Relevant certifications or licenses including Certified Alcohol and Drug Counselor (CADC)
- Ability to pass a Background Check
- Valid Drivers License (if transporting patients)
- Active First Aid and CPR certification
- Proven experience in providing counseling or support services and case management for individuals with substance abuse issues.
- Knowledge of addiction treatment modalities, detoxification protocols, and recovery principles.
- Familiarity with evidence-based therapeutic approaches, such as motivational interviewing, CBT, and solution-focused therapy.
- Strong interpersonal skills and the ability to establish rapport with clients from diverse backgrounds.
- Excellent communication skills, both verbal and written.
- Ability to maintain confidentiality and adhere to ethical guidelines.
- Sympathy, compassion, and a non-judgmental attitude toward individuals struggling with addiction.
- Proficient computer skills for documentation and record-keeping.
- Training in Motivational Interviewing (will be provided by RWNW)
- Training in De-escalation (will be provided by RWNW)
**Position is contingent on passing an OHA Background check and successful completion of a urine analysis (UA) after accepting job offer**
