JOB SUMMARY
The Recreation Staff member plays a key role in supporting and delivering recreational programs and activities within the community. Working as part of the Parks and Recreation team, this position involves assisting with the planning, coordination, and implementation of a variety of outdoor and indoor events, sports, and leisure activities. The Recreation Staff will engage with participants of all ages, ensuring a positive, inclusive, and safe experience for everyone. This role requires strong interpersonal skills, the ability to work in a dynamic environment, and a passion for promoting community well-being through recreational opportunities.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
- Assist in the setup, facilitation, and supervision of recreational programs, events, and activities.
- Provide customer service to participants, responding to inquiries and ensuring a welcoming environment.
- Monitor safety standards during activities, ensuring a safe environment for all participants.
- Maintain and organize recreational equipment and supplies.
- Collaborate with team members and supervisors to ensure program goals and schedules are met.
- Assist with registration, attendance tracking, and participant feedback collection.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
- Monitor and maintain facility conditions, ensuring safety and cleanliness.
- Operate facility lights, scoreboards, PA systems, and ensure equipment is set up for games.
- Issue, collect, and check out game equipment to patrons.
- Update the sports hotline and post current information around the park.
- Inspect and maintain restrooms, ensuring cleanliness and Park standards.
- Act as the point of contact for the public in the absence of management and enforce park rules.
- Communicate with the on-call manager and assist park crew with field and court prep.
- Manage waste disposal, litter collection, and clean up spills for safety.
- Safely operate golf carts and maintain radio communication with team members.
- Document activities in the Daily Communication Log and manage Lost and Found.
- Ensure the office area is clean, organized, and welcoming to the public.
- Open / close the Park, completing all documentation and procedures as required.
- Replenish supplies in game buckets and remove completed forms/materials.
EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS
- High school diploma or equivalent (some positions may require additional certifications, such as CPR/First Aid).
- Previous experience in recreation, sports, or community engagement preferred.
- Strong communication and customer service skills.
- A positive, energetic attitude with a passion for working with diverse community members.
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES
- Ability to work outdoors in various weather conditions and stand for extended periods.
- Ability to respond during stressful conditions with dealing with patrons and working within strict and sometimes unexpected deadlines
- Good interpersonal skills are needed to effectively deal with managers and patrons
SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS
- At least 18 years of age
- Current driver’s license issued by state of residence.
- Satisfactory Motor Vehicle Report
PHYSICAL AND DEXTERITY REQUIREMENTS
- Ability to stand, walk, and move for extended periods of time, often in outdoor environments.
- Ability to lift, carry, and move items up to 25 pounds, such as game equipment, supplies, and materials.
- Must be able to bend, stoop, kneel, and crouch to perform tasks like setting up equipment or cleaning.
- Ability to work in varying weather conditions, including heat, cold, and rain.
- Good manual dexterity and hand-eye coordination to handle tools and equipment.
