As the IT / Control System Infrastructure Engineer located in Washington, DC you will be responsible for the design, development, implementation, and maintenance of SCADA software systems used for monitoring and controlling industrial processes. This role is critical for ensuring the efficiency, reliability, and safety of our operations.
The position will also involve creating and maintaining documentation to ensure adherence to industry standard SCADA software standards and cybersecurity controls, aligning with all levels of the Purdue Security Model. Additionally, the incumbent will be required to comply with all government regulations, including FERC / NERC CIP, as well as guidelines imposed by other governing bodies relevant to the specific plant facility.
No two days are the same in this role. As the IT / Control Systems & Infrastructure Engineer, you will be immersed in a dynamic plant environment, working hands-on with plant personnel, including engineers, OT instrumentation technicians, and network engineers, to support and optimize our control and network systems. From developing and implementing SCADA systems to troubleshooting and enhancing OT network infrastructure, you will be at the center of operational excellence.
Reporting to the System Operation Director, your primary duties encompass :
- Designing, developing, deploying, and providing ongoing maintenance for SCADA software systems utilized within plant instrumentation and control systems (Example of SCADA application knowledge includes; Rockwell FactoryTalk, Aveva PI, GE iFix & Simplicity)
- Must be able to support plant personnel with industrial processes, including sensors, transmitters, controllers, and final control elements and their interconnection to the specific level of the Perdue model
- Create and maintain comprehensive documentation, including software specifications, user manuals, and system configurations
- Ability to assist with the installing, configuring, and commissioning instrumentation systems onsite
- Provide ongoing maintenance and support for SCADA systems, ensuring uptime and reliability
- Performing troubleshooting, diagnostics, and maintenance activities to ensure optimal performance and reliability of SCADA systems and other key OT hardware devices, where applicable
- Work closely with plant personnel to understand operational needs and provide technical support
- Collaborate with cybersecurity teams to ensure strict compliance with security standards and protocols
- Collaborating with other engineering disciplines (such as electrical and mechanical) to integrate instrumentation systems into larger projects
- Conducting performance testing, calibration, and validation of SCADA systems within the instrumentation and OT environments to ensure accuracy and compliance with standards
- Providing technical support and training to operations and maintenance teams on instrumentation systems, when necessary
- Keeping abreast of industry trends, technological advancements, and best practices in instrumentation engineering
- Collaborate with Plant SCADA Instrumentation Technicians, Plant Maintenance personnel, and Regulatory Compliance agencies to establish and implement best practices, as well as company IT and OT standards, for the configuration, security, and maintenance of plant Industrial Control Systems (ICS).
