Director of Electrical Engineering

Responsibilities

  • Design Electrical systems for diverse markets (mission critical, telecommunications, commercial, government, etc.).
  • Perform site surveys. Field verification and documentation of existing systems.
  • Coordinates and communicates Electrical systems with other departments and disciplines.
  • Utilize CAD / REVIT for design production as needed.
  • Communicate and coordinate drawing development with Production Department.
  • Coordinate with equipment and lighting vendors for selecting equipment and fixtures.
  • Coordinate development of drawings with designers, production department and other engineers.
  • Provide mentoring to designers and engineers.
  • Assist in maintaining client relationships.
  • Develops new client relationships.
  • Assist in development of project specifications.
  • Assist in development of design concepts.
  • Provide technical direction to staff.
  • Assist Principals in development of project proposals as requested.
  • Performs construction cost estimates independently.
  • Assist in development of schematic design narratives and sketches as requested.
  • Identify process improvement for the company and communicate needs to Department Directors.
  • Collaborate with Engineer of Record during design if not personally acting as Engineer of Record.
  • Identify roadblocks during design and communicate with Project Manager, Engineer of Record and Department Director.
  • Develops technical reports and studies.
  • Performs quality control of contract documents including drawings and project specifications.
  • Responsible for assisting during construction administration phase :
  • Review submittals, RFIs, change orders.
  • Perform site visits.
  • Document and publish observation reports and punch list items.
  • Perform energy code compliance calculations.
  • Review code requirements pertinent to the design.
  • Perform engineering calculations such as building load analysis, voltage drop, etc.
  • Design power, fire alarm, interior, and exterior lighting layouts.
  • Select electrical equipment : switchgear, relaying, switchboards, generators, UPS, panelboards, transformers, breakers, etc..
  • Perform arc flash studies : coordinating breaker trip curves, develop arc flash reports, perform short circuit calculations via Easy Power or SKM Powertools.
  • Document equipment schedules.
  • Develop electrical single line diagrams.
  • Document basis of design requirements for project.
  • Review Architectural, Civil and Technology drawings, identify and communicate coordination items to lead engineer or project manager.
  • Coordinate building service with power company.

  • Expert in AutoCAD, Revit, Microsoft office, Bluebeam, Easypower and SKM tasks.
  • Ability to work independently throughout design process.
  • Expert in equipment selection software.
  • Expert in applying industry-standard and local building codes, as necessary to perform work on projects.
  • Proficient in MEANS for construction cost estimates.
  • Proficient in sustainability rating systems : LEED, WELL.
  • Ability to optimize design to meet energy standards, customer expectations and customer budget.

  • Qualifications :

  • Bachelor of Science Engineering Degree in Electrical Engineering from an accredited university
  • Certificates and Licenses :

  • Professional registration with NCEES preferred
  • Physical Demands :

  • 10% Travel requirements
  • Experience :

  • 4 years minimum in a MEP engineering firm or related experience
