Job Title: Optical Network Deployment Engineer

About the Role:
We are seeking an experienced Optical Network Deployment Engineer to join our backbone network deployment team. This exciting role will focus on optical and IP network deployment and operations, including decommissioning, retrofitting, capacity upgrades, and migrations. You will play a critical role in ensuring smooth deployments and operations by leveraging your expertise in routing/switching, optical networks, and leadership. This is a fast-paced environment, and we are looking for someone who is organized, can multi-task, and enjoys working in a team setting.
Key Responsibilities:
- Configure, build, roll-out, and test new DWDM line systems deployments, including calibration, verification, BERT, etc.
- Deploy and commission optical devices (Ciena and Infinera) in new Points of Presence (PoPs) and data center builds.
- Develop and maintain documentation for network design, deployment workflows, and operational procedures.
- Work cross-functionally to enhance network design and deployment workflows.
- Analyze data to diagnose and identify root causes for network issues and optimize tooling processes.
- Ensure efficient, scalable, and stable network performance through system analysis and continuous improvement.
- Lead network optimization efforts, including re-stripes, migrations, upgrades, and capacity expansion.
- Create Bills of Materials (BoM) and Job Start Notifications (JSN) for deployments and upgrades.
- Manage device installations, software/firmware upgrades, testing, and decommissioning.
- Provide troubleshooting expertise for complex network issues under pressure.
- Collaborate effectively with cross-functional teams, ensuring successful project delivery.
Qualifications/Skills:
- Proven experience with Ciena 6500 platforms and DWDM technologies.
- Ciena and/or Infinera certifications (or equivalent experience) highly preferred.
- Expertise in DWDM components such as ROADM, Mux/Demux, Amplifiers, Transponders.
- Hands-on experience with chassis installations, line card installs, PCRs, and structured fiber installations.
- Strong experience in device installation, testing, software/firmware upgrades, and decommissioning.
- Knowledge of network optimization techniques including migrations, upgrades, and capacity scaling.
- Skilled in creating BoMs and JSNs for network deployments and upgrades.
- Proficient in troubleshooting network issues and delivering solutions under tight deadlines.
- Strong knowledge of TCP/IP, with practical experience in routing protocols (OSPF, BGP, MPLS).
- Experience with multivendor network testing and support.
- Solid understanding of fiber-optic technologies including cable types, connectors, optical types, and transport technologies.
- Experience with network operations, including network design, capacity planning, and troubleshooting.
- Excellent communication, documentation, and team collaboration skills.
- CCNA/JNCIA or equivalent certification preferred.
