Position : Assistant Survey / Project Manager
Salary : $85,000
Location : Windsor, NJ
Job Summary :
Duties include preparing proposals, contracts, permits, and reports; consulting with clients; and
drawing / drafting maps. The Assistant Survey Project Manager will have joint responsibility for overseeing
field surveys and recording data of marked utilities after they have been located using various electronic
tools. They will also be cross trained in utility locating theory consisting of marking surface, subsurface, and
aerial utilities including gas, water, sewer, phone, power and CATV lines. Travel may be required depending
on where the work is located.
Job Duties & Responsibilities :
1. Provide daily direction and leadership of assigned field crews on quality and survey methodology,
including training and mentoring of junior level employees.
2. Read and interpret plans such as site, boundary, highway, profile and cross sections, pipeline plans.
3. Oversee the process of collecting field data to produce positional information, i.e., total station,
leveling, traversing, stadia, topographic mapping, interpreting control point records and data sheets,
locating points in the field and implementing staking and marking strategy.
4. The LS may also be Understand utility locating procedures, as needed. When doing so, they must
follow the standard operating procedures for : i.e.,
a. Field Targeting
b. Locating
c. Targeting
d. Field Sketching
e. Test Hole Documentation
5. Correct use, technique, and maintenance of all survey and locating equipment.
6. Work with branch manager (SULM) and CADD manager to oversee crews and projects, ensure QA / QC
procedures and accuracy of data.
7. Follow correct administrative procedures.
8. Assist in the project review.
9. Other duties as assigned.
Job Requirements : General
1. High proficiency with data collectors, total stations, and GPS / GNSS
2. Proficiency in the CI / ASCE 38-22 Standard / willingness and ability to learn.
3. Ability to read and understand maps, records, and plan sets.
4. Working knowledge of Excel, Word, PDF editor.
5. Must have good communication skills (verbal and written) and attention to detail.
6. Ability to listen to, understand, and follow directions. Ability to delegate directions correctly.
7. Ability to remain flexible as specific assignments change.
8. Ability to work with a variety of personalities.
Physical
1. Must be able to walk, bend, and lift up to 75 pounds. 50 lbs.
2. Must have the ability to move safely over uneven terrain or in confined spaces.
3. Must have the ability to see and respond to external influences, including hazardous environments.
4. Must have the ability to wear personal protective gear correctly most of the day. If required.
5. Must have physical strength, balance, hand-eye coordination, and stamina necessary to complete
jobs in various areas.
Work Environment
1. Must be able to work outdoors in all types of weather conditions, if necessary.
2. Must be able to work in a confined space.
3. Must be available to work overtime / weekends and travel as needed.
Skills & Experience :
Minimum Qualifications
1. Bachelor, Associate or certificate in Survey or related field.
2. PLS, LS or PSM licensure (at least one state).
3. At least 3 years experience in field survey and / or engineering.
4. Must be able to pass a pre-employment drug test.
5. Must have a valid drivers license and a clean driving record.
Valued but not required skills and experience :
1. PLS, LS or PSM licensure in multiple states preferred but not required.
2. TDS data collection and Eagle point experience helpful but not required. Carlson Survey data
collector software. We no longer use TDS and Eagle Point no longer supported.
3. Utility systems, mapping, or surveying experience helpful but not required.
4. Utilities or construction experience highly desirable but not required.
5. Ability to use MicroStation and / or AutoCAD.
6. Ability to use Esri ARC GIS.
