Reporting to the operations manager, the fleet and facilities manager will be responsible for overseeing the operation, maintenance, and repair of all fleet vehicles and heavy equipment, as well as managing the maintenance and operation of the plant’s facilities. This role ensures that all equipment and facilities are functioning optimally, safely, and efficiently to support the day-to-day operations of a ready-mix concrete plant. The Fleet and Facilities Manager will coordinate maintenance schedules, supervise a team of technicians and subcontractors, and maintain a safe working environment that complies with industry standards.
Essential Job Responsibilities
Oversee the maintenance and repair of the fleet of delivery trucks, mixers, and other heavy equipment.
Develop and implement maintenance schedules for all vehicles and equipment to ensure uptime and efficiency.
Monitor fleet performance and work to minimize downtime due to mechanical failure or inefficiencies.
Coordinate repairs, servicing, and parts replacement for vehicles and equipment, including managing third-party service providers when needed.
Ensure compliance with all relevant regulations, including DOT (Department of Transportation) requirements and safety standards.
Maintain accurate records of fleet maintenance, repair work, and vehicle inspections.
Track and manage fleet costs, including fuel, repairs, and parts.
Ensure all vehicles are equipped with the necessary tools and supplies for efficient operations.
Oversee the maintenance and upkeep of the ready-mix plant's facilities, including buildings, equipment, and grounds.
Ensure that plant facilities and equipment are in good working order, with routine inspections and preventive maintenance.
Coordinate the repair and replacement of plant infrastructure, machinery, and other equipment.
Ensure all facilities comply with environmental, safety, and health regulations.
Manage facility-related budgeting and cost control, ensuring efficient use of resources and minimizing unnecessary expenses.
Implement safety programs and conduct regular safety inspections to ensure that the plant and its facilities meet OSHA and other regulatory standards.
Supervise, lead, and train a team of fleet mechanics, technicians, and maintenance staff.
Develop work schedules for fleet and facilities staff, ensuring coverage for all operational hours.
Foster a culture of safety, efficiency, and teamwork within the fleet and facilities departments.
Conduct performance evaluations and provide feedback for staff development and improvement.
Maintain inventory of parts, tools, and equipment necessary for the repair and maintenance of vehicles and facilities.
Ensure adequate stock levels of commonly used parts and materials to avoid delays in repairs or maintenance.
Procure necessary parts and supplies in a timely manner, managing relationships with suppliers.
Negotiate pricing to ensure the best pricing for all parts and supplies used in the upkeep of the fleet and facilities.
Essential Job Qualifications
High school diploma or equivalent; bachelor’s degree in Facilities Management, Engineering, or a related field preferred.
Minimum of 5 years of experience in fleet management or facilities management, with at least 3 years in a supervisory role.
Experience working in a manufacturing or construction-related industry, ideally in a ready-mix concrete plant, construction, or heavy equipment management.
Knowledge of vehicle maintenance, mechanics, and operations of ready mix trucks, mixers, and other heavy machinery.
Familiarity with OSHA regulations, DOT compliance, and environmental standards for fleet and facilities management.
Strong problem-solving and troubleshooting skills for fleet and facility issues.
Excellent organizational and multitasking abilities.
Strong leadership skills and the ability to manage a diverse team.
Good communication and interpersonal skills to effectively interact with vendors, staff, and management.
Proficient in computer systems related to fleet maintenance management and inventory systems.
