Overview

The Electrical Engineer - Arc Flash is a crucial role within our organization, tasked with ensuring electrical safety and compliance against arc flash hazards. This position plays a vital part in safeguarding personnel and assets by conducting thorough risk assessments and designing effective electrical systems. The engineer will apply their expertise to analyze existing installations and recommend improvements to enhance workplace safety. This role not only involves technical evaluations but also necessitates strong communication skills to work collaboratively with multiple teams, including operations and safety departments. The engineer will also oversee and implement arc flash hazard analyses, ensuring that all relevant safety standards and regulations are met. In contributing to the reduction of electrical hazards, the Electrical Engineer - Arc Flash supports our mission to uphold the highest safety standards, ultimately protecting our workforce and optimizing operational efficiency.

Key Responsibilities

  • Conduct arc flash assessments in accordance with NFPA 70E standards.
  • Evaluate existing electrical systems to determine arc flash risk levels.
  • Develop and implement arc flash mitigation strategies.
  • Design electrical systems with safety and compliance considerations.
  • Prepare detailed reports on findings and recommendations.
  • Collaborate with multidisciplinary teams to improve electrical safety protocols.
  • Provide training and oversight for staff on arc flash safety practices.
  • Stay updated on industry regulations and best practices related to electrical safety.
  • Assist in the development of safety guidelines and procedures.
  • Perform power system studies including short circuit and coordination analysis.
  • Support project management by estimating costs and scheduling tasks.
  • Conduct site inspections to assess compliance with safety standards.
  • Review and approve electrical system designs and changes.
  • Engage in field troubleshooting and solution implementation.
  • Document procedures and outcomes for future reference.

Required Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering or related field.
  • Professional Engineering (PE) license preferred.
  • Experience in arc flash analysis and electrical safety compliance.
  • Proficient in Electrical CAD software and modeling tools.
  • Strong understanding of electrical codes and standards.
  • Minimum of 3-5 years’ experience in electrical engineering.
  • Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills.
  • Experience in risk assessment and safety audits.
  • Strong written and verbal communication abilities.
  • Ability to work collaboratively in a team environment.
  • Project management experience is advantageous.
  • Attention to detail in technical documentation.
  • Familiarity with software tools for load calculations.
  • Ability to manage multiple projects and deadlines.
  • Knowledge of power distribution systems is a plus.
