Overview

The Civil Engineer II plays a pivotal role in the planning, design, and execution of various civil engineering projects. This mid-level engineering position involves collaborating with project managers, architects, and other engineers to ensure that assigned projects meet design specifications, codes, and budgetary constraints. The Civil Engineer II not only applies engineering principles to develop safe and effective designs, but also engages in on-site inspections, oversees construction activities, and mentors junior engineers. The role is integral in contributing to the sustainability and quality of infrastructure, ultimately impacting community safety and well-being. In addition to technical skills, effective communication and teamwork are crucial for coordinating efforts across multiple disciplines. The Civil Engineer II must stay informed about industry trends, regulations, and best practices to ensure all projects comply with local, state, and federal standards. This position is essential for delivering projects efficiently while adhering to deadlines and maximizing resource management.

Key Responsibilities

  • Conduct detailed site assessments and feasibility studies.
  • Develop and modify engineering designs using CAD software.
  • Prepare and review project plans, specifications, and reports.
  • Collaborate with architects and engineers on interdisciplinary projects.
  • Oversee construction work to ensure compliance with design specifications.
  • Perform site inspections and document project progress.
  • Analyze survey reports, maps, and other data for design solutions.
  • Participate in project meetings to provide updates and address concerns.
  • Assist in the preparation of cost estimates and budgets.
  • Prepare engineering calculations to validate design integrity.
  • Ensure adherence to all safety protocols and regulatory requirements.
  • Mentor junior engineers and provide technical guidance.
  • Evaluate materials for suitability in construction projects.
  • Implement sustainable practices in design and construction.
  • Interact with clients and stakeholders to understand project needs.

Required Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in Civil Engineering or related field.
  • Professional Engineer (PE) license is preferred or required.
  • 2-5 years of relevant engineering experience.
  • Proficiency in engineering software such as AutoCAD and Civil 3D.
  • Strong understanding of construction methods and materials.
  • Excellent analytical and conceptual design skills.
  • Experience with project management principles and practices.
  • Knowledge of local, state, and federal engineering regulations.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills.
  • Able to manage multiple projects concurrently.
  • Detail-oriented with strong organizational skills.
  • Ability to work collaboratively in a team environment.
  • Fieldwork experience and understanding of site conditions.
  • Capability to perform field data collection and analysis.
