The Engineering Project Manager is responsible for overseeing the conceptualization, development, and execution of projects for the manufacture of capital equipment. The role involves collaborating with other management personnel, providing instructions and guidance to engineering and design teams, and ensuring successful project completion on time and within budget.
Essential Functions
Project Planning and Execution :
- Work with stakeholders to develop detailed project plans, including project objectives, scope, milestones, deliverables, and resource allocation.
- Use critical thinking to facilitate effective decision making, problem solving, and risk analysis within a cross-functional team.
- Monitor progress and quality of work, identify risks, and implement corrective actions as needed.
Budget and Cost Management :
Create and manage project budgets, tracking costs as they accrue to ensure projects are completed within budget.Evaluate cost estimates, negotiate contracts, and manage vendor relationships.Implement cost-saving strategies without compromising quality.Manage scope of work through a change control process to ensure the efficient execution of the project.Risk Assessment and Mitigation :
Identify potential risks and develop risk mitigation plans.Regularly assess project risks and adjust strategies accordingly.Maintain a proactive approach to prevent or minimize disruptions.Stakeholder Communication :
Act as a liaison between engineering teams, upper management, and external stakeholders.Provide regular updates on project status, milestones, and any deviations from the plan.Foster a collaborative relationship with internal and external customers to address stakeholder concerns and maintain positive relationships.Resource Allocation and Team Management :
Support allocating resources effectively, considering skill sets, workload, and project priorities.Resolve conflicts and motivate team members to achieve project goals.Proactively address concerns with design, engineering, fabrication, and assembly to maintain progress.Mentor designers and engineers to promote skill development.Quality Assurance :
Ensure adherence to engineering standards, best practices, and quality control processes.Conduct regular inspections and audits to verify compliance.Support and implement continuous improvement initiatives.Documentation and Reporting :
Maintain accurate project documentation, including technical specifications, design documents, calculations, test reports, and change logs. Utilize these records in support of patent, copyright, and trademark applications.Generate progress reports, performance metrics, and lessons learned.Forecast and report on project status and profitability at expected intervals.Other responsibilities include but are not limited to :
Assist sales and manufacturing departments in technical matters when needed.Maintain thorough knowledge of applicable industry standards, regulations, and laws regarding safety and standard design practices.Support timely generation of cost estimates as needed.Responsible for own safety. Education and Experience
Bachelor’s degree in mechanical or electrical engineering, project management, or related field.Proven track record of successfully managing complex engineering projects (5 years of Project Management experience, preferably in manufacturing of capital equipment).A combination of education and experience equivalent to 10 years in a similar role.Relevant certifications (e.g., PMP, Six Sigma) are a plus.Experience in converting, plastics, packaging, or similar desired.
