About the Opportunity
This locum tenens emergency medicine position is currently available at a medical facility in Kerrville, Texas. The estimated length of the assignment is 6-12 months or longer, with 12-18 shifts per month.
The staffing model consists of MD/DO physicians working 3 doc shifts and NP/PA staff working 2 APP shifts. Physician shift times are from 6a-4p, 12p-10p, and 8p-6a, while NP/PA shift times are from 9a-7p and 3p-1a.
The annual volume of patients is approximately 31,000, with 85 patients seen per day. The trauma level designation is Level IV, and there is no scribe coverage.
The medical facility has 20 ED beds and 4 hallway beds when needed, as well as 12 ICU beds. The EMR system used is Meditech Expanse, and privileging timeframe is 60-90 days after application submission.
Locum privileges can be expedited for providers who have completed orientation on the first Tuesday of the month during credentials meetings. Onboarding requirements include hospital orientation, EMR training, and a shadow shift in the ED.
Vaccination requirements include annual flu vaccination, TB within 6 months of application, MMR, Tdap, Varicella, HepB, and others.
The facility typically has cardiology, general surgery, ortho, and OB/GYN services available, as well as Tele-neuro. ENT and Heme/Onc services are usually available, but GI services may vary (approximately 50% availability).
The transfer rate is around 4%, and the facility will keep STEMI patients in-house. Stroke patients requiring thrombectomy are transferred, but those with complete heart block may receive pacemaker implantation locally.
Candidates must have ABEM or AOBEM certification or be board eligible for ABEM/AOBEM. Board certifications must be maintained, and alternative boards are not accepted.
Residency-trained EM physicians are preferred, unless an exception is made by the Medical Director. ATLS and ACLS certifications are required for non-boarded docs and APPs, while boarded docs do not require these certifications.
An active state license is required to proceed, although it is not necessary to have one at the time of application. IMLC is accepted.
