POSITION: Food Sovereignty Coordinator
LOCATION: Mino Bimaadiziiwin Tribal Farm
WAGE: $24 - $27 per hour (DOQ)
SUPERVISOR(S): Farm Manager/Food Systems Coordinator
THIS IS A REGULAR FULL TIME NON-EXEMPT POSITION
JOB SUMMARY: This position will support the food sovereignty efforts of Mino Bimaadiziiwin Gitigaanin (Red Cliff Tribal Farm) and assist the Tribe overall with integrated food system planning, as well as management, planning and daily activities of farm operations. The incumbent will work closely with the community and other Tribal programs to identify food sovereignty needs and implement projects and workshops to address those needs. The position will also seek to improve Tribal access to locally produced, nutritional foods by involving existing programs and services and by seeking additional support and funding where the need is identified.
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
1. Collaborate with other Red Cliff and regional entities to support Red Cliff member’s food sovereignty through coordination, education, and technical support.
2. Support the implementation of existing Farm programs and initiatives (Local Food Boxes, Equipment Lending Program, Spring Garden Assistance, annual iskigamizigan (sugarbush) etc).
3. Coordinate community events and workshops which aim to introduce harvesting of treaty resources, gardening, and other food sovereignty efforts to Red Cliff members, especially to engage Tribal youth and families.
4. Conduct community engagement and outreach efforts on behalf of the Mino Bimaadiziiwin Farm.
5. Work with other Tribal programs and community members to establish and support individual and community garden beds throughout the Red Cliff community.
6. Collaborate with other Tribal Departments and community partners to assist with the planning processes for seasonal/cultural community camps and events.
7. Explore funding opportunities to further the Farm and Tribe’s mission of better utilizing and promoting local and Indigenous foods.
8. Assist with daily farm operational needs (weeding, pruning, harvesting, distribution, animal husbandry, etc).
9. Function as a conduit between the TNR Division and other tribal programs in food sovereignty planning efforts.
10. Some management of grants (budgets, reporting) is expected.
11. Increase access to local food staples for the overall benefit of the tribal community.
12. The above duties and responsibilities are not an all-inclusive list but rather a general representation of the duties and responsibilities associated with this position. The duties and responsibilities will be subject to change based on organizational needs and/or deemed necessary by the supervisor.
SUPERVISORY AUTHORITY: Some supervision of seasonal staff and interns at the farm is expected.
KNOWLEDGE: Applicant should have previous involvement in diversified farm operations or food sovereignty work; familiarity with Mino Bimaadiziiwin farm operations preferred. Previous program management experience will be highly regarded. Knowledge of, and the ability to network with, local food initiatives in the region will be of benefit.
QUALIFICATIONS:
1. A Bachelor’s Degree is preferred.
2. Demonstrated proficiency with data collection, inventory and record keeping techniques as well as good overall computer skills.
3. Good communication skills, both oral and written, and the ability to collaborate and engage with the tribal community and multiple partners.
4. Must have a valid driver’s license, vehicle and appropriate vehicle coverage and maintain driver’s eligibility as a condition of employment. Be eligible to be put on the tribe’s vehicle insurance policy.

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS: Be able to walk through uneven terrain in various weather conditions, bend and lift up to 50 lbs.
WORK ENVIRONMENT: Office and outdoor setting with a willingness to work on occasion outside the normal 8 to 5 hours. All Tribal Buildings are smoke free.
TRAVEL REQUIREMENTS: The ability to travel and attend meetings and trainings; overnight and out of town, both locally & nationally.
