JOB DESCRIPTION
POSITION: General Dentist
LOCATION: Red Cliff Community Health Center
WAGE: Negotiable depending upon qualifications
SUPERVISOR: Dental Director and Health Services Administrator
THIS IS A REGULAR FULL-TIME EXEMPT POSITION
JOB SUMMARY: Responsible for the operation of a direct care dental services program within the organizational structure of the Red Cliff Community Health Center. Professional activities will include routine preventative care and the treatment of dental disease, community outreach and health education.
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Provides preventative, restorative, periodontal & endodontic procedures for various patient groups adhering to dental practice standards, agency policies and departmental objectives.
- Develops, prioritizes, sequences, and presents to patients for approval, treatment plans which include assisting in the patient’s financial responsibilities with the Dental Office staff and directing to Purchased and Referred Care when needed.
- Assist with orientation, training, and oversight of daily activities of support staff, i.e., dental assistants, dental hygienists.
- Shall effectively assist the dental staff in the development and training of educational programs for staff and patients; shall supply a copy of the record of all CEU’s obtained to Health Division Administrator.
- Maintain the confidentiality of all patient’s specific information and data in accord with federal and state laws and regulations.
- Assist with preparation of manuals, records, documentation, and other materials required by Health Center Administration, the Tribal Council, funding sources, and licensing bodies.
- Utilizes quality improvement activities and quality assurance measures to maintain a high standard of care for all patients.
- Participate in continuing education efforts to maintain professional licensure and certification and to enhance work related knowledge and skills.
- Maintain a clean and safe working environment with particular attention to established infection control procedures.
- Shall be readily available for local and out of the area travel as required for job related training and comply with reporting requirements as appropriate.

SUPERVISORY AUTHORITY: Dental Assistants, Hygienists
KNOWLEDGE:
- Knowledge of and sensitivity for Ojibwe culture and traditions.

- Good interpersonal skills and demonstrates the ability to work effectively with Native American people and diverse populations (patients, co-workers, professional staff, administration, and the public).

- Ability to plan, coordinate, and direct varied and complex operations.
QUALIFICATIONS
- Must have a DDS or DMD from an accredited school of dentistry OR obtain within six months or hire.
- Must have an unrestricted license to practice dentistry in the State of Wisconsin OR obtain within six months of hire.
- Meet or exceed minimum standards of character as prescribed by P.L. 101-630 and WI State Statutes s. 50.065 and as subsequently amended and applied to certain classes of Tribal employees.
- Must be certified or eligible for certification as a dental care provider with the Wisconsin Medical Assistance (Title 19) Program.
- Must maintain CEU’s as required for license renewal.
- Must possess or obtain current DEA registration without restrictions.
- Must certify and remain current in CPR
- Must possess and maintain a current, valid driver’s license, vehicle, and appropriate vehicle coverage as a condition of employment. Must be eligible to be insurable under the Tribal vehicle, malpractice, and liability insurances.
PERSONAL CONTACTS: Considerable daily contact will be made with the general public, tribal leadership, Program Directors and staff, consultant(s), and the Tribal Community.
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS: Routine bending, stooping, and lifting as it pertains to providing dental care to patients.
WORK ENVIRONMENT: Outpatient dental care area within the Red Cliff Community Health Center must be maintained as clean well ventilated work area in compliance with sound dental care practice and Tribal policy. All Tribal Buildings are smoke free.
TRAVEL REQUIREMENTS: The ability to travel and attend meetings and trainings; overnight and out of town, both locally & nationally.
