POSITION: Roads Department Supervisor
LOCATION: Red Cliff Roads Department
WAGE: Negotiable, (DOQ)
SUPERVISOR(S): Public Works Administrator
THIS IS A REGULAR FULL-TIME EXEMPT POSITION
JOB SUMMARY: This is a full-time permanent position dependent on available transportation funding and will be responsible for overseeing road maintenance in the field and driving transit buses when needed. This will also include expertise in snow and ice control using various types of equipment and operation of various size vehicles. The position’s responsibilities will be the supervision of the roads maintenance crew, scheduling of work, the routine and preventive maintenance on equipment, tribal vehicles and tools used in the day to day operations of the Public Works Division.
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
1. Supervision of all road maintenance staff.
2. Operation of a variety of equipment for ice and snow removal and Public Works vehicles routinely.
3. Responsible for routine and preventative equipment maintenance.
4. Responsible for routine and preventative maintenance of the transportation facilities to include road surface grading, vegetation control, traffic control device and drainage facility maintenance.
5. Maintain accurate records and an inventory of all equipment and supplies under the ownership of the Tribe.
6. Responsible for staff scheduling within the Roads Department.

The duties and responsibilities will be subject to change based on organizational needs and/or deemed necessary by the supervisor.
SUPERVISORY AUTHORITY: Road Maintenance staff.
KNOWLEDGE: Knowledge of and sensitivity for Ojibwe culture and traditions. Individual must have advanced knowledge of budgeting, scheduling, staff supervision, heavy equipment operations (e.g. dump-trucks; loaders; graders, etc.); vehicle/truck repair and maintenance.
QUALIFICATIONS
1. Must be at least 18 years of age.
2. Minimum high school diploma, HSED or GED required.
3. Prior work experience being required.
4. Must have a valid driver’s license, vehicle and appropriate vehicle coverage and maintain driver’s eligibility as a condition of employment. Applicants must possess A Valid Wisconsin Commercial Driver’s Class A or B license with air brake and passenger endorsement, required upon hire and maintain driver’s eligibility as a condition of employment. Be eligible to be put on the Tribe’s vehicle insurance policy.
5. This position is subject to random drug and alcohol testing pursuant to Department of Transportation rules.
6. Individual must have advanced knowledge of scheduling, staff supervision, heavy equipment operations (e.g. dump-trucks; loaders; graders, etc.); vehicle/truck repair and maintenance.
7. Working knowledge of electrical and mechanical components of equipment and vehicles.
8. Ability to keep and maintain accurate records of road work and equipment maintenance, which will be used for reporting purposes under contractual agreements with the BIA and the Town of Russell.
9. Ability to communicate effectively with others, as well as the ability to follow specific instructions.
10. Ability to effectively communicate using telephone and two-way radios.
11. Good computer skills are required for parts and material ordering, tracking, scheduling and reporting.
12. Excellent interpersonal skills are required for interaction with members of the public utilizing the transportation services of the Red Cliff Tribe.

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS: Ability to operate equipment and machinery, such as snowplow, sander, dump truck, tractor, front end loader, up to a 14-passenger transit bus and common hand and power tools. Ability to exert moderately heavy (up to 50 pounds) physical effort in moderate to heavy work, typically involving some combination of climbing and balancing, stooping, kneeling, crouching, crawling, lifting, carrying, pushing, and pulling. The employee must be physically able to perform and demonstrate emergency evacuation procedures. Physical fitness is essential for performing these tasks effectively and safely.
TRAVEL REQUIREMENTS: The ability to travel and attend meetings and trainings; overnight and out of town, both locally & nationally. Position may require some local travel up to a 100 mile radius by vehicle for parts and material pickup.
WORK ENVIRONMENT:
1. While performing the duties of this job, the employee is frequently exposed to elevated noise levels; fumes or airborne particles; noxious odors; vibrations from driving a bus; and traffic.
2. The employee is occasionally exposed to moving mechanical parts and outside weather conditions.
3. All Tribal Buildings are smoke free.
