POSITION: Youth Cultural Activities Coordinator
LOCATION: Boys and Girls Club of Gitchigami
SALARY: $17.00 an hour
SUPERVISOR(S): Boys and Girls Club Director, Family/Human Services Administrator
THIS IS A REGULAR FULL-TIME NON-EXEMPT POSITION
JOB SUMMARY: This position is responsible for planning, coordinating, and facilitating structured Ojibwe culture related youth activities. The program will provide culture centered activities that aid in the prevention of alcohol/drug/tobacco use, teen pregnancy, and behavioral health challenges. This may be through seasonal harvesting activities, song and dance, implementation of curriculum and other various Ojibwe culture teachings and traditions.
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
1. Plan, coordinate, and facilitate structured Ojibwe culture related youth activities. These will be planned one month in advance and will have corresponding work plans on how to carry out the activity. These activities are to be carried out whenever possible at the Boys and Girls Club or other approved spaces during regular hours.
2. Must be present at the Boys and Girls Club during hours of operation including nights and weekends.
3. Collaborate with other tribal departments and community agencies.
4. Promote and market information to the community regarding planned activities in a timely manner.
5. Recruit knowledgeable community/other agency members (preferably in-kind) or activity content experts to assist in implementation.
6. Prepare and complete all paperwork including enrollment forms, sign-in sheets, permission slips, posters, and financial requisitions with required back up for activities.
7. Prepare and complete reports on cultural and group activities quarterly. Work with all staff to complete required reporting.
8. Work with staff (or independently if needed) to keep Boys and Girls Club clean and safe and supplies stocked.
9. Assist and participate in creating and gathering information from youth/community satisfaction of service's survey
10. Participate in the implementation of grants, contracts, or projects being carried out under the auspices of the Red Cliff Family Services Programs and at the direction of the Family Services Administrator. These activities are to comply with the directives of Tribal Administration and to fulfill the conditions and stipulations of the grant, contract, or project. The specific duties will reflect the individual grant, contract, or project and the concurrent needs and resources of the Family Services Program. These assignments will vary from time to time due to the cyclical nature of these program efforts.
11. Participate in the implementation of grants/projects being carried out by the auspices of the Family/Human Services Program.
12. Present a professional and caring image. Demonstrate tact, courtesy and respect when communicating and interacting with youth, staff and outside agencies and programs.
13. Maintain a cooperative relationship with co-workers and Tribal employees.
14. Promote a working environment noted for effective cooperation and collaboration between programs, services and co-workers.

SUPERVISORY AUTHORITY: None
KNOWLEDGE: Basic knowledge of AODA issues and the effects on youth. Knowledge of various types of recreational activities.
QUALIFICATIONS:
1. Minimum of high school diploma, HSED or GED required.
2. Experience, education or volunteer work with Tribal or other youth is preferred.
3. High working knowledge of traditional Ojibwe culture and the ability to share and teach it to the youths.
4. Demonstrate the ability to relate to youth and be sensitive to youth issues/concerns.
5. Must have good written and verbal skills and demonstrate as such.
6. Must have a valid driver’s license, vehicle and appropriate vehicle coverage and maintain driver’s eligibility as a condition of employment. Be eligible to be put on the tribe’s vehicle insurance policy. Will need to utilize Boys and Girls Club vehicle and carry out job duties when travel is required.
PERSONAL CONTACTS: Individual will have daily contact with youth and staff. Contact also includes those with community members or other individuals from other Tribes/Reservations.
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS: Individual should be in good physical condition and be able to keep up with the demands of overseeing youth activities. Bending, lifting, sweeping and carrying of objects less than 25 pounds is a part of daily work.
WORK ENVIRONMENT: Most of the time will be spent at the Boys and Girls Club facility. There will also be activities and field trips that will require out of town travel. All Tribal buildings are smoke free.
TRAVEL REQUIREMENTS: Must be able to transport youth in Tribal vehicle to other Reservations or field trip destination points. It may be required to attend training and any other helpful and identified career development workshops or continuing education credits that support the Boys and Girls Club goals and objectives.

Any behavior or attitude that tarnishes the name or image of the Red Cliff Band of Lake Superior Chippewa will be subject to immediate disciplinary action up to and including termination.
