Entry Level Shop Tech

Red Head Steering Gears is hiring for an entry level position in our production shop, located in Auburn, WA. Come join our team!

Red Head is the premier steering gear remanufacturing company in the USA, founded in Seattle in 1981 and still owned by the same family. Red Head's business has consistently grown year after year, we've never had a year that our sales haven't grown, even through tough economic times! We rebuild gears of many types, from a manual steering gear for a 1950's Corvette or a 1st Gen Bronco, to big rig truck boxes, race vehicles, and industrial equipment. We are a small-ish company with 3 locations, 2 in WA and 1 in Idaho, with just under 100 employees. We are what I'd call an "old school" shop, where generally everything we do is a labor-intensive manual process. From disassembling the gears, to prep, paint, build, and tuning/adjusting the gears, it's all done by our techs in-house.

Due to the small niche that Red Head's business serves, there is never someone that walks through our door and says "I have 10 years of experience rebuilding steering gears". We expect to train people and are looking for someone that has a basic mechanical understanding, the aptitude to learn, and is willing to work hard, get dirty, and learn several different tasks. Someone with actual auto repair experience, and especially any kind of suspension or alignment work, would be a big plus for when we do vehicle inspections for our customers. A day in the life might look like working at a lathe for a 1/2 day to prep and polish parts, and the other 1/2 day painting parts, installing seals, or working at a wire wheel or sandblast cabinet prepping parts. Other jobs and opportunities to learn and grow with the company are available as Red Head continues to grow.

* Work is M - F with 2 start times, either 7 - 3:30, or 8 - 4:30. Some overtime is avail but not required.

* Company work shirts and cleaning service are provided.

* Safety toe shoes or boots are required, and a $100 / yr allowance is paid by the company.

* Starting wage is $20 - $22 DOE. There is definite potential for accelerated growth for a solid performer.

* The company pays 100% of the med/dental/vision insurance premiums for the employee and family, if applicable.

* 401k w/ 6% match.
