Summary

 

Will oversee the afterschool daycare program including; to supervise students, Support Staff and facilities after school; communicate with the front office and parents about the students; maintain the afterschool facilities; and to do other related work as required.

EXAMPLES OF DUTIES

  • Enforces school rules and safety regulations throughout the day.
  • Ensures a safe and fun atmosphere where students can do homework, play with friends and have a safe and enjoyable time after school.
  • Coordinates the support staff in the supervision of students during afterschool care, including leading and directing Support Staff in their duties.
  • Supervises playground activities of students after school.
  • Monitors the playground and reports unsafe conditions.
  • Use positive reinforcement strategies and other appropriate techniques to assist students in the development of appropriate behavior and an appreciation of human diversity.
  • Communicate and coordinate Support Staff to stay focused on keeping students safe and happy.
  • Schedule afterschool Support Staff.
  • Assist with after-school snacks.  Ensuring healthy snacks are available each day.
  • Maintain the KidsZone room and equipment, including supplies and equipment.
  • Patrols student restrooms to control over-crowding.
  • Ensures that no unauthorized persons are on the school grounds and that students do not leave the grounds during that time without permission.
  • Uses good judgment regarding appropriate action to assist an injured or ill student.
  • Assists in administering minor first aid and filling out ouch and accident reports.
  • Monitors and assists students in a variety of instructional activities as a follow-up to the presentation of instructional concepts by instructional personnel.
  • Maintains a variety of records and files, including confidential student records and information.
  • May perform routine clerical tasks such as typing, computer operation, filing, and photocopying.
  • Operates and assists students in the operation of a variety of instructional technology.
  • Assists in maintaining an orderly, attractive, and positive learning environment.
  • Performs other related duties as required.

Knowledge of:

Children’s behavior and characteristics; acceptable methods used in maintaining students in lunch/recess situations. Activities planning. Supervision of daycare staff. 

 

Basic concepts of child growth and development, and developmental behavior characteristics; student behavior management strategies and techniques; basic subjects including arithmetic, grammar, spelling, and reading; any subject area required for specific position.

 

Ability to:

Learn and enforce school rules and safety regulations; able to bring out the best in children and help them work towards Christian character traits such as being kind, honest, forgiving; recognize and report danger to students or school property; deal firmly, tactfully, respectfully and effectively with students; interact with parents in a positive manner; understand, carry out and communicate oral and written instructions; work cooperatively with others; appreciate human diversity; communicated effectively with others; move rapidly and freely about the entire campus throughout the work shift; monitor children on the playground, assist injured students.

 

Demonstrate an understanding, patient, and receptive attitude toward students of varied age groups; utilize a variety of instructional materials and procedures to enhance a positive educational environment; perform routine clerical tasks and operate a variety of educational and office related machines and equipment.

 

Demonstrate good interpersonal skills; conduct and/or coordinate activities; work collaboratively with others; establish and maintain effective organization, community, and public relationships; comply with the school’s customer services standards.

 

PHYSICAL DEMANDS AND WORKING ENVIRONMENT

Environment: Work is performed while patrolling and monitoring campus, mostly outdoors.

 

Physical: Primary functions require sufficient physical ability and mobility to stand and/or walk on a campus in various weather conditions; to climb stairs; to occasionally stoop, bend, kneel, crouch, reach, stand (normally for one to two hours at a time) and twist; to lift, carry, push, and/or pull light to moderate amounts of weight; to operate office equipment requiring repetitive hand movement and fine coordination; and to verbally communicate to exchange information.  Functions require sufficient physical ability and mobility to stand or sit for prolonged periods of time; and to verbally communicate to exchange information.

 

Vision: See in the normal visual range with or without correction.

Hearing: Hear in the normal audio range with or without correction.

Able to lift 30 lbs.
