Position Summary:
The General Manager (GM) is responsible for overseeing the overall operations, profitability, and community engagement of the Red Lake Trading Post (a full-service supermarket), the Ponemah Market (a small market and gas station), and the Red Lake C-Store (a convenience store and gas station). This role requires a dynamic leader with strong business acumen, cultural sensitivity, and a passion for serving the Red Lake Nation community. The GM will ensure that each location operates efficiently, provides exceptional service, and reflects the values and needs of the community.
Key Responsibilities:
Leadership and Staff Management
Hire, train, and manage staff across all three locations, fostering a collaborative and motivated work environment.
Develop and implement staff schedules to ensure adequate coverage and operational efficiency.
Conduct performance evaluations, provide coaching, and address employee concerns to maintain high team morale.
Operational Oversight
Oversee daily operations at the Red Lake Trading Post, Ponemah Market, and Red Lake C-Store, ensuring consistency in quality service.
Monitor inventory levels, coordinate with suppliers, and manage product offerings to meet the unique needs of the community.
Ensure cleanliness, safety, and compliance with health, safety, and environmental regulations.
Financial Management
Develop and manage budgets for each location, ensuring cost control and profitability.
Analyze sales data and trends to identify growth opportunities and address underperformance.
Oversee cash handling processes and ensure accurate financial reporting.
Customer and Community Engagement
Deliver exceptional customer service, addressing customer inquiries and resolving issues promptly.
Build and maintain strong relationships with the local community, ensuring the stores serve as a valued resource.
Incorporate culturally relevant products and services into the offerings.
Marketing and Promotions
Plan and execute marketing campaigns, sales events, and promotions tailored to the community.
Work with vendors and suppliers to feature local and tribally-produced goods.
Promote loyalty programs and other initiative to attract and retain customers.
Strategic Planning and Reporting
Set short- and long-term goals for each location, aligned with the organization’s mission and vision.
Provide regular performance reports to the governing body (Red Lake, Inc.) and stakeholder, highlighting successes, challenges, and plans for improvement.
Stay informed on market trends and adapt strategies to meet evolving customer needs.
Qualifications:
Education and Experience:
Master’s or Bachelor’s degree in Business Administration, Management, or a related field (equivalent experience considered).
5 years of management experience in retail, grocery, or convenience store operations.
Skills and Competencies:
Strong leadership and team management abilities.
Excellent financial management and budgeting skills.
Knowledge of inventory management and supply chain logistics.
Cultural sensitivity and experience working with Native American communities preferred.
Outstanding customer service and problem-solving skills.
Other Requirements:
Must have a valid driver’s license and reliable transportation.
Ability to work flexible hours, including evenings and weekends, as needed.
Working Environment: This position involves managing multiple locations within the Red Lake Nation, each with unique community needs and operational dynamics. The GM will work closely with the community, employees, Red Lake Inc., and stakeholders to ensure that the stores provide a welcoming and essential service to the area.
