Position Summary
The Fiber Splicer is responsible for splicing, maintaining, and repairing fiber-optic cables used in telecommunications, internet services, and other data transmission systems.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
· Splice and terminate fiber-optic cables using fusion and mechanical splicing techniques.
- Maintain the fiber-optic network by testing to locate network faults, opening cables to repair or replace defective sections, and using proper splicing techniques to close and seal cable facilities.
- Test and troubleshoot fiber-optic networks using specialized equipment.
- Ability to set up fiber counts in new and existing cable facilities and transfer customers' service from one cable and/or terminal to another.
- Keep accurate records of splicing and testing activities, equipment inventory, and maintenance schedules.
- Adhere to safety standards and procedures while working with fiber-optic equipment and in various work environments.
- Stay up-to-date on industry trends, best practices, and new fiber-optic splicing and network infrastructure technologies.
- Assist contractors working near buried facilities - where necessary.
- These are not the sole responsibilities; you will perform all other duties as needed and assigned.
- Hours for this position are Monday-Friday, 7:30 AM - 4:00 PM. Overtime as needed.
- Occasional travel may be required for training.
QUALIFICATIONS
- Advanced knowledge of fiber-optic installation, splicing and troubleshooting.
- Knowledge of the telecommunications industry, plant & testing equipment, operations, and maintenance.
- Ability to read and interpret documents such as maps, staking sheets, and operating maintenance instruction manuals.
- Skill in operating various office equipment, computers and devices, software programs, and telephone systems.
- Ability to read, write and speak with clarity.
- A positive work attitude and professional appearance.
- Skilled in maintaining a clean, efficient work area and company vehicle.
- Skilled in communicating professionally and courteously with co-workers and various business contacts. A team player who can work under moderate supervision.
- Regular, reliable, consistent, and punctual attendance.
- Must possess a valid and insurable driver’s license.
