The Outside Plant Technician installs and repairs internet/Wi-Fi fiber-optic communication networks and services, including broadband, managed services, phones, digital TV service, cameras, surveillance, and security systems. Responsibilities require discretion, judgment, problem-solving, tact, and poise.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
· Install, maintain, and service residential and business networks, fiber-optic cables, Wi-Fi, and customer-owned equipment.
· Splice and test fiber-optic cable.
· Use test equipment such as ethernet testers, Wi-Fi analyzers, cable fault locators, OTDR, fusion splicers, and volt meters.
· Maintain and update customer network information for accurate billing records.
· Consult customers to determine problems and acceptable resolutions.
· Work safely and comply with all safety and company policies set forth by Red River Communications.
· Assist contractors working near buried facilities - where necessary.
· These are not the sole responsibilities; you will perform all other duties as needed and assigned.
· Hours for this position are Monday-Friday, 7:30 AM - 4:00 PM. Must participate in the on-call rotation schedule.
· Occasional travel may be required for training
QUALIFICATIONS
· Must possess a valid and insurable driver's license.
· Education Requirements: High School Diploma / GED equivalent
· Preferred education or training in electrical, networking, data systems, computer science, etc.
· An aptitude for solving technological challenges.
· Skill in operating various office equipment such as personal computers and devices, software programs, and telephone systems.
· Ability to make sound technical decisions using available information.
· Ability to read, write and speak with clarity.
· Ability to read and interpret documents such as maps, staking sheets, and operating and maintenance instruction manuals.
· A positive work attitude and professional appearance
· Skilled in maintaining a clean, efficient work area and company vehicle.
· Skilled in communicating professionally and courteously with co-workers and various business contacts.
· A team player with the ability to work under moderate supervision.
· Regular, reliable, consistent, and punctual attendance
· Preferred but not required: Knowledge of telecommunications plant equipment operations and maintenance.
