Job Description
Red River Pharmacy Services is looking to fill the position of a full time Home Infusion Registered Nurse. The Infusion Nurse is responsible for providing safe administration of parenteral products, along with education and professional nursing care for patients in the home setting. Nurses are an integral part of the pharmacy team. The Nurse assists the pharmacy in a professional manner in the pharmacy setting. Responsibilities include delivery of infusion services, health education to patients of all ages in accordance with established nursing standards; assisting in the pharmacy as appropriate; working with all Pharmacy personnel to ensure an efficient and safe environment. There may be after hours or weekend call rotation depending on pharmacy location requirements.
Duties and Responsibilities
- Participates in offering successful pre/post discharge education for home infusion therapy to patient and/or caregiver in the home and clinical setting
- Provide direct nursing care to patients in their home for the administration of infusion therapies
- Documents delivery of health care and nursing process in accordance with the Pharmacy’s policies and procedures in a timely, accurate, and consistent manner
- Educates the patient and family/significant others of the plan of care. Acts as a resource for facilitating communication when necessary
- Acts as a resource within the Pharmacy to other staff members and patients
- Participates as a team member and promotes teamwork by assisting others with department activities
- Fulfills administrative/clerical duties, as necessary
- Assists in maintaining an efficient, safe, secure, orderly, and aseptic environment of care for all patients and employees.
- Is familiar with and abides by OSHA Standards, Hazardous Materials, Universal Precautions, use of personal protective equipment, Evacuation, Fire, Disaster, and Safety Plans
- Knowledge and Skills
- General Infusion Experience required. Specialty training provided
- Strong IV Skills required
- Port Experience preferred
- Knowledge of basic principles of health promotion, prevention, and motivation
- Knowledge of protocols in general and an ability to quickly gain specific knowledge of the Pharmacies current operational protocols
- Knowledge of medical terminology and appropriate abbreviations
- Demonstrates knowledge of the Texas Nursing Practice Act
- Organizational skills sufficient to maintain consistently accurate records
- Ability to read and comprehend medical instructions, short correspondence, and memos
- Ability to work cooperatively with community agency personnel to coordinate services for patients
- Ability to use office equipment including but not limited to computers, fax machines, telephones, and copiers
- Computer skills that include word processing, and efficient use of the internet and e-mail
- Ability to prioritize and allocate resources
- Qualifications Required
- Nurse degree from an accredited school of nursing
- At least one year of nursing experience; infusion experience is preferred
- Current unrestricted license from the Texas Board of Nursing to practice as Registered Nurse (RN) in the State of Texas
- Current Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation (CPR) for Healthcare Professionals Certification
- Valid Driver’s License
- Reliable Transportation
