Summary of Position

The Accounting Specialist III plays a key role in managing and maintaining the financial operations of the School Age Child Care (SACC) department. This position is responsible for a variety of duties, including overseeing accounting software systems, processing registrations, payments, and fees, and ensuring accurate record-keeping in compliance with established policies and procedures.

The primary responsibilities of this role include handling customer service inquiries, managing billing cycles, and ensuring accuracy in client statements. The position also supports the Colorado Child Care Assistance Program (CCAP) by maintaining communication with case workers and processing related transactions. A strong focus on training and supporting staff, as well as collaborating with other departments, is essential for maintaining smooth departmental operations. Additionally, the Accounting Specialist III will be involved in auditing past due accounts, conducting budget analysis, and assisting in year-end reporting.

The individual in this role will provide ongoing training and support to Site Managers and Accounting Department Assistants, while ensuring all accounting tasks are completed timely and accurately. The position requires someone with strong organizational and problem-solving skills, the ability to collaborate with various teams, and a commitment to maintaining a positive work environment.

This is a 0.75 FTE position, 30 hours a week, Monday through Friday, 6:45 am – 1:45 pm.

REQUIRED KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS & ABILITIES:
  • Effective communication, interpersonal, critical thinking, time management, organizational, and conflict resolution skills.
  • Demonstrated ability to problem solve and use sound judgment.
  • Ability to plan, evaluate, and manage competing priorities.
  • Ability to set well-defined goals, display a high level of initiative, and be successful under minimal supervision.

  • Ability to work within a team and with others who may have differing perspectives, to achieve goals.
REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS:
  • Three years relevant, accounting or bookkeeping experience, or equivalent relevant education and/or experience to equal three years.
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:
  • Leadership or supervision experience.

  • Occasionally moves, positions, and transports files and office materials weighing up to 10 lbs.
  • This is largely a sedentary role. This position operates in an office environment and constantly uses a computer, and routinely uses standard office equipment including phones, copiers, etc.
  • The person in this position constantly communicates with internal and external constituents and students. Must be able to exchange accurate information in these situations.
  • Cognitive demands include comparing, copying, computing, compiling, analyzing, coordinating, synthesizing, negotiating, communicating, instructing, and interpersonal skills.

Starting Salary

Starting salary range for this position is $37,386 - $41,124 annually, at 0.75 FTE, commensurate with education and experience. This is a 0.75 FTE (30 hours a week), FLSA non-exempt (overtime eligible) position. This position has been exempted from the State Classified System due to funding source.
