Summary of Position
The Fine Woodworking Shop Manager plays a critical role in supporting the Fine Woodworking Program by overseeing the day-to-day operations of the shop. This includes managing equipment maintenance, procuring and preparing materials, and supervising shop personnel to ensure smooth and efficient operation. The position provides essential support to instructional staff, ensuring that the shop is fully equipped and safe for both students and faculty.
Responsibilities also include hiring, training, and supervising embedded tutors and student employees, managing schedules and timesheets, and conducting performance reviews. The Shop Manager is responsible for maintaining the woodworking equipment, performing regular preventive maintenance, and coordinating repairs. Additionally, the position manages the department's budget, ensuring proper allocation of funds for tools, materials, and staffing needs. The Shop Manager also leads the planning and execution of shop improvements, working closely with Facilities and the FIW Chair. Building strong relationships with industry vendors, suppliers, and students is key, as the position represents the department both internally and externally.

- Organizational Skills: Excellent multitasking abilities, with strong attention to detail in managing budgets, material needs, and schedules.
Qualifications
Required Knowledge, Skills & Abilities:

- Ability to maintain and repair woodworking machinery, minor electrical connections and diagnostics.
Required Qualifications:
- Any combination of education and/or equivalent relevant experience to equal four years. The experience equivalency will not count towards the two years requirement below.
- Two years of professional woodworking experience including the maintenance of woodworking equipment and leadership or supervisory experience.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Working knowledge of repair/maintenance of woodworking machinery.
- Budget management experience.
- One year of CNC Router & Laser technology experience.
Physical & Cognitive Demands
The following are some of the physical and cognitive demands commonly associated with this position.
- Frequently moves, positions, and transport supplies and equipment weighing up to 50 lbs.
- Frequently works within the woodshop area and operates heavy and hazardous equipment.
- Uses a computer, and routinely uses standard office equipment including phones, copiers, etc.
- The person in this position constantly communicates with internal and external constituents and students. Must be able to exchange accurate information in these situations.
- Cognitive demands include comparing, copying, computing, compiling, analyzing, coordinating, synthesizing, negotiating, communicating, instructing, and interpersonal skills.
- Diagnoses, repairs, and calibrates woodworking equipment, including CNC and laser machines.

Starting Salary
Starting salary range for this position is $53,320.00 - $58,652.00 annually, commensurate with education and experience. This is a full-time, FLSA-exempt position. This position has been exempted from the State Classified System.
