Position Summary the Production Planner Supervisor ensures the smooth and timely flow of work within or between departments to meet production and shipping deadlines. The ideal candidate will be experienced in developing master production schedules, coordinating workflows, and proactively resolving scheduling conflicts in a fast-paced environment.
Key Responsibilities
- Develop master production schedules to meet customer orders and forecasted sales.
- Analyze production specs and capacity to determine manufacturing processes.
- Plan and coordinate workflow across departments based on established lead times.
- Communicate with department supervisors to assess project status and resolve delays.
- Prepare production reports and maintain lists of required materials, tools, and equipment.
- Adjust schedules as needed based on priorities, material availability, or unforeseen disruptions.
- Eliminate redundant machine setups by rescheduling similar processes.
- Distribute work orders, specifying type, quantity, and due dates.
- Monitor inventory to ensure adequate supply of materials and packaging.
- Adhere to Good Manufacturing Practices (GMPs) and Food Safety protocols.
Supervisory Responsibilities
This position directly supervises Assistant Production Planners and will be responsible for:
- Interviewing, hiring, and training team members.
- Assigning and reviewing work.
- Managing performance, addressing concerns, and ensuring compliance with company policies.
Requirements
Education and Experience:
- Bachelor's degree or equivalent from a four- or five-year college or university, or
- 2–4 years of related experience and/or training, or
- Equivalent combination of education and experience.
Skills & Abilities:
- Strong communication skills (verbal and written).
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office (Excel, Word), ERP/MRP systems, and internet software.
- Strong math skills with the ability to compute rates, proportions, and percentages.
- Sound judgment and reasoning skills to solve practical problems under variable conditions.
- Ability to interpret technical documents, schedules, and reports.
Physical Demands & Work Environment
- Regularly required to sit, use hands, and communicate clearly.
- Occasionally required to walk, climb, and lift up to 25 lbs.
- Vision requirements include close and distance vision and the ability to adjust focus.
- Work environment is typically moderate in noise and includes exposure to production settings.
