Description
The Patient Account Specialist is responsible for analyzing delinquent patient accounts and resolving open insurance issues. Individuals in this role will receive reimbursement from insurance companies and ensure payments are posted to patient accounts accurately and efficiently.
Type: Full-Time
Location: Fishers, IN office - options for remote or hybrid
Schedule: M-F 8-4:30
Travel Required: Ability to travel to Fishers CIO location
Responsibilities
Minimum high school diploma or GED required. Minimum of 1 to 3 years previous patient account experience in a healthcare organization required. Additional applicable education may be substituted for patient service experience in a health care environment.
Working Conditions/Physical Requirements
Standard work environment is an office setting. Work requires sitting for long periods of time. Position requires viewing and typing on a computer for long periods. Occasionally bending, lifting, and reaching required to deal with files, paper, supplies, etc., including lifting up to 25 pounds. Requires manual dexterity sufficient to operate standard office equipment (computer, telephone, copier, etc.) regularly. Vision must be correctable to 20/20. Hearing must be in the normal range for telephone contacts and to interact directly with employees. Regularly interacts with the staff and the public, which may involve dealing with angry or upset people.

Responsibilities
- Explain clinic billing and payment procedures to patients, responding to patient requests regarding their accounts and assist with claim issues.
- File insurance claim forms and explanation of benefits statements for outstanding accounts.
- Interface with insurance providers to ensure all discounts or special rates are applied to the bill and information is accurate to ensure timely payment by the insurance company.
- Receive payments from insurance providers, posting and updating patients’ accounts accurately and timely, maintaining required records, reports and files, and balance adjustments.
- Assist with coding and error resolution to ensure patient accounts are accurate.
- Places a high priority on and maintains strict confidentiality in all situations.
- Participates in professional development activities and maintains applicable professional affiliations and certifications as required.
- Attends and participates in required organizational meetings and committees as requested.
- Performance additional related duties as assigned.
