Salary: $240 – $270 per Sunday morning worked (based on experience)

Job Summary:

Redeemer Presbyterian Church in Decatur, Alabama, seeks a talented and dedicated Worship Music Leader (Piano and/or Guitar) to lead singing in our worship services, fostering a dynamic and spirit-filled atmosphere for congregational worship. This part-time role involves playing piano and/or guitar during our Sunday morning 10:30 a.m. service, leading the congregation in singing through serving as a vocalist, and collaborating with pastoral and worship leaders to create meaningful worship experiences. The Worship Music Leader will be expected to maintain a high standard of musicianship and professionalism while encouraging congregational participation and spiritual growth through music.

Key Responsibilities:

• Lead Music During our Worship Service:
• Lead and accompany congregational singing on the piano and/or guitar, serving as a vocalist, during our Sunday morning worship service.
• Coordinate weekly with Rev. Dr. Andrew Flatgard, our Associate Pastor, to select songs that align with the sermon theme and church vision.

• Musical Leadership:
• Provide instrumental accompaniment on the piano and/or guitar for worship, hymns, and praise songs with vocal accompaniment.
• Ensure smooth transitions between worship songs and other parts of the service (e. g., prayer, Scripture reading).

• Cultural Sensitivity and Church Vision:
• Maintain a heart for worship that supports the spiritual mission and culture of the church.
• Lead in a way that fosters inclusion and engagement, inviting the congregation into worship.

• Occasional Special Events:
• Participate in special worship services or events (e.g., holidays, baptisms, church-wide celebrations) as needed and as mutually agreed upon.

Requirements:

• Musical Proficiency:
• Strong proficiency in piano and/or guitar playing with the ability to lead worship confidently.
• Familiarity with a wide range of worship styles, including contemporary Christian worship, hymns, and traditional gospel music.

• Experience:
• Prior experience in a worship leadership role is preferred, though not required.
• Comfortable leading worship both individually and within a team setting (e.g., with singers, musicians).

• Spiritual Commitment:
• A mature Christian faith with a commitment to personal spiritual growth.
• A heart for leading others in worship and helping them encounter God through music.

• Interpersonal Skills:
• Strong communication and collaboration skills to work effectively with the pastor, worship team, and congregation.
• The ability to adapt to the church's style, preferences, and traditions while maintaining a spirit of creativity.

Schedule and Compensation:

• Hours: Approximately 5-7 hours per week, primarily on Sunday mornings
• Compensation: $240 – $270 for each Sunday worked, based on experience.
• Includes time for service preparation, weekly rehearsal, and Sunday service.
• Additional compensation for any special services or events, as agreed.
