Overview :
The Billing Specialist I is responsible for answering incoming phone calls, ensuring proper and timely processing of all insurance and patient responsibility claims, ensuring payments from insurance companies and patients are correct, handling money transactions based on patient balance, ability to assist patients with questions regarding balances and insurance payments.

The Billing Specialist I works as a part of the Billing team to ensure that claims are processed accurately patients receive the best possible customer service.
Responsible for Dunning level 4 statements
Writing off add on codes, transferring credits, etc
Result report write offs
Verify insurance benefits of patients appropriately, training on portals in order to promote
Work assigned denials through Waystar in a timely and accurate manner
Set-up / remove billing notifications in patient charts as needed
Other duties assigned by supervisor
The Billing Specialist I will function as an integral part of the Billing Team. The Billing Specialist I should meet regularly with their supervisor(s) to continuously update and improve the functions of their role.

Minimum 1 year of relevant experience
Experience in an outpatient medical office required
Graduation from an Accredited College, University, or trade school with a degree, license, or certificate in a relevant field preferred
High School diploma or equivalent required
Must possess superior written and verbal communication skills
Ability speak, read, and write English fluently required
Must demonstrate proficiency in the use of a Windows Computer and Microsoft office products
Must achieve proficiency in the following programs
Electronic Medical Record
Insurance eligibility and verification systems
Any other systems used in conjunction with the position
Ability to work independently and provide regular reports required
Must adhere to HIPAA and HIITECH guidelines at all times
