Project Estimator – Plumbing & Electrical (Residential Construction)
Job Overview: We are looking for a skilled and detail-oriented Project Estimator to join our team in estimating plumbing and electrical systems for residential construction projects. The ideal candidate will have experience in estimating the costs of plumbing and electrical work, as well as a strong understanding of construction processes and residential building codes. The Project Estimator will be responsible for accurately determining the material, labor, and equipment costs for each project phase, and ensuring that these estimates align with client specifications and budget constraints.
Key Responsibilities:
- Cost Estimation for Plumbing & Electrical Systems: Prepare detailed cost estimates for plumbing and electrical systems in residential construction, including materials, labor, equipment, and overhead costs.
- Project Scope Analysis: Review project blueprints, specifications, and scope of work related to plumbing and electrical installations to develop comprehensive and accurate estimates.
- Collaboration with Project Teams: Work closely with project managers, builders and superintendents to identify project requirements and develop accurate estimates for the plumbing and electrical
- Takeoff and Quantity Surveying: Perform material takeoffs and quantify plumbing and electrical components to ensure accurate estimation of materials and labor.
- Vendor & Subcontractor Coordination: Solicit bids and quotes from subcontractors and suppliers for plumbing and electrical services. Evaluate and negotiate pricing and work with vendors to ensure competitive pricing.
- Budget Management: Continuously monitor project costs throughout the construction phase to ensure adherence to budget and identify potential cost-saving opportunities.
- Code Compliance: Ensure that all estimates comply with local plumbing, electrical, and building codes, as well as safety regulations.
- Risk Identification & Management: Identify potential risks related to plumbing and electrical work and provide recommendations for mitigating these risks.
- Documentation & Reporting: Maintain accurate records of all estimates, change orders, and contracts. Provide detailed, timely updates and reports to project managers.
Required Skills and Qualifications:
- Experience in estimating plumbing and electrical systems for residential construction projects.
- Strong knowledge of plumbing, electrical systems, and associated materials, codes, and regulations.
- Experience with estimating software (e.g., ProEst, Buildertrend, or similar tools).
- Ability to interpret blueprints, electrical plans, and plumbing diagrams.
- Exceptional attention to detail and strong analytical skills.
- Excellent communication and negotiation skills.
- Ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously and meet deadlines.
- A minimum of 2-3 years of experience in plumbing and electrical estimating or a related field.
- A degree or certification in construction management, electrical/plumbing technology, or a related field is a plus.
- Familiarity with local plumbing, electrical codes, and construction permits.
Preferred Qualifications:
- 3 years of experience in plumbing and electrical estimating for residential construction.
- Strong understanding of project management and contract administration.
- Familiarity with local market pricing trends for plumbing and electrical systems.
