ReDiscover is seeking a Peer Specialist to add to our Peer Services Program !

WHAT WE DO

The Peer Services program is an expansion program dedicated to outreaching and connecting clients to services for mental illness and / or substance use disorders. Our Peer Services provide support to clients using personal experiences to build rapport and engage in services that are offered.

At ReDiscover, while every day is different, a typical day may include the following roles and responsibilities :

  • Supports ReDiscover's Hospital Diversion program, where staff work to reduce the frequency of visits to hospital emergency rooms.
  • Shares lived experience of resilience and recovery and models successful recovery behaviors for individuals with a mental health diagnoses and / or a substance use disorder.
  • Links clients with support groups and other community resources, which may include connecting with health & wellness activities, finding and maintaining employment, or other activities that would support clients' recovery goals.
  • Works within an interdisciplinary team to develop and modify individual client treatment plans.
  • May participate and / or facilitate mutual support and education groups within specific ReDiscover programs.
  • May assist with client transportation, which could include transporting individuals in personal vehicle.
  • Utilizes non-traditional means to connect with clients, which may include street outreach.
  • Safeguards Protected Health Information (written and electronically) and maintains confidentiality. This may include providing written documentation.

We are focused on your development and will spend time helping you continue to grow as a Peer Support Specialist. However, here are some things that you will need prior to starting with ReDiscover :

  • High school diploma or GED equivalent required.
  • A valid automobile driver's license, appropriate automobile insurance and a safe, reliable, registered automobile available for use during work.
  • Must have life experiences with mental illness / substance use disorders and have received services.
  • Must have successfully completed the Peer Specialist training through the Missouri Credentialing Board (MCB) and successfully passed the certification exam. Individuals who are non-certified at time of hire may be given a specific timeframe to attend training and obtain initial certification.
  • Must also satisfy requirements for external community partners.
  • Excellent customer service skills with a recovery focus.
  • Strong written, oral and interpersonal communication skills.
  • Intermediate computer skills in typing / keyboarding, Microsoft Word and Excel programs as well as GSuite.
